Decision Making

i have made it very clear to you on and off the record, so i will try again. but for you, i will play nice when i say it. please do not feel the need to respond or interact with me. as i have stated before, and i thought we came to an agreement, you go your way, and i go mine. there are thousands of posters on here that i can get info from, and have fun competitive banter with without them getting upset. clearly, you and some others, do not fall into that category. and you know what? i do not respond to them, i leave them alone. you are not my cup of tea, as i am not yours. the difference? i leave you alone, yet you follow me around this site cyber stalking me. what is your deal? i literally ignore and pass by your post. why? bc i understand you and i are not cut from the same cloth. i am asking you professionally and nicely, please stop!!
You don’t get to choose who responds to your posts. It’s a “semi-public” board that has rules. I have had my vacations and disputes but in the end you follow or leave.
Huskermax has an ignore feature that is handy for posters who feel they are being stalked. Demanding posters pass you by and not respond to comments they either agree with you on or disagree with you is not an option.

You mean to tell us that
All the talk about the hopes for the 2022 season are focused on the roster changes, in large part because like me, its fun to postulate about improved and new players.

But to me the last four years and the frustrations about lack of winning, especially close games, comes down to decision making.

Let me give you two examples from 2021:
1. Opener with Illinois, game is very close, less than 40 seconds to play till half time, DONU at roughly its own 45 yard line. HCSF sends AM back to pass, with his less than stellar O-line to protect him and......strip, sack scoop and score for Illinois that completely changed the feel of the game as DONU played from behind the rest of the way.
WHY? Your QB is 2nd in the nation in TO's at that point, your O-line is porous, the likelihood of scoring points is slime, so the correct play is to run the ball get to half time and make your changes to win in the second half.

2. Purdue game: We out gain Purdue, Yant 6-60, Rahmir 12-52 but we can't over come AM's 4 INT's :(. Purdue was 77th in the nation in rush defense last year, so why can't we realize that, when our QB is having a bad day, maybe, just maybe its the day to run the ball and take advantage of the opponents weakness???

So, with HCSF moving to a more "oversight, CEO" role, supposedly delegating more of the nitty gritty game day roles to his staff, especially the new OC and his DC, will they be allowed to make these decisions on their own.

Because if there are not changes in the decision patterns of the last 4 years, then better players will not be able to express their talents in such a way as to lead to wins.

Has there been statements as to what the OC can do on game day? Because a more stable offense makes the DC's job a lot easier as he can do lots more things to try and win than if the offense has four straight 3 and outs.
You mean to claim that with a minute left in the half in a tie game, we get the ball on a turnover near midfield that it was a poor decision to not just run out the clock?

There isn't a coach in the country that would have run out the clock in that situation.

And didn't AM miss a wide open Hickman a play before?

Agree with wcbsas. Against Illinois, at our 38 just under a minute, the first down play called by Frost was perfect. Hickman crossed, the LB ran into the ref, the WR took the DB on that side of the field away and had Martinez completed the wide open pass it was an easy 30 yards if not a score. The missed pass was absolutely on Adrian. I don't fault Frost, but actually applaud the play call. Like others said, it was 9-9 just under a minute at our own 38. The 2nd down play took us to the 46 and a 3rd and 2. Do you not try to get a first down and at minimum a field goal? If we can't try to do that against Illinois, we should shut down the program. Now why not a draw or a screen on 3rd and 2? I do agree that would have been a better call, but we did not have much time.

Also as mentioned above, at this point Illinois is really only in the game due to the crazy decision by CTB to field a punt falling into the end zone and Tanner getting called for roughing and taunting on a play CTB intercepted. (The hit and the attitude was beautiful in days gone by). Martinez is gone, I really liked him most of the time except when he was maddening. We will see if Thompson, a year older line, new OC, added skill players and improved specialists and an easier schedule will translate to a happier season.
As a Packer fan I endured the Brett Favre years ..he retired as the all-time leader in TDs but also in INTs. 2AM reminds me a bit of him. For every spectacular play or two there is a maddening one.

Difference is 2AMs deficiencies are fundamental … inability to read defenses, hit the check down and simple throwing mechanics are his bugaboos.

Agreed.
Put him against same play calling at UCF.......

Four years of coaching and he seemingly got worse each year, but yeah, it's all Adrian's fault.

Didn’t claim it’s all 2AMs fault … go read some of my earlier posts … I’m concerned Kleiman will have success with him because he (Kleiman) will scheme and coach 2AM up better.

But 2AM is not a good passer, he doesn’t have great touch .. medium/midrange throws are notoriously off target. Go look at the end of the half sequence of the Illinios game … the play call, the protection and the execution were all on target except for 2AM.

if this were an isolated incident in the first game of the year we might say so what … but it has been a constant theme throughout his Husker career. To argue otherwise is simply biased perspective.

The protection was on target? He wasn’t able to follow through with the throw because of the rush. You did notice he got knocked down didn’t you?

I appreciate that you chose to only give two examples. Otherwise this had the potential to set the record for the longest post ever.

Yes, hindsight is 20/20. Given where we had the ball, being aggressive at that point against Illinois was the logical choice. What happened was a failure of execution, not decision making in that instance.
Disagree, it was not worth the risk with AM. Go into halftime with the lead. Frost needs to understand how BIG fottball works, so far he has coached like he is in another conference.

Go into halftime with the lead? We didn't have the lead. We were tied. Almost any other coach, Big Ten or otherwise, would have done the same thing in that scenario.
