Will The Big 12 Be Better Off

Yep.

The horse, the cows and now the chickens are out of the barn on that one.

The Big12 is in Big trouble.
Actually, their future is suddenly looking quite good. They have two teams in the Playoff hunt. Cincy and Oklahoma State are a combined 21-1. Baylor, BYU, and Houston are also inside the top 20. That doesn’t look like a conference in big trouble. Top to bottom, it’s considerably better than the ACC and PAC-12. The ACC has no teams in the top 20, and the PAC has but one.

The Big 12 is going to be fine.

You are exactly right. Revenue probably takes a hit, though maybe the added teams will gradually continue to increase revenue over time.

The CFP expansion with the most momentum appears to be a 12 team format with each P5 winner getting an auto bid. There continues to be support for keeping the Big 12 as a P5. That in itself keeps the conf relevant.

If the conf were in place and the 12 team format existed today, as of this moment, Cincinnati, Baylor and OSU would all be in line to be included.

It will be interesting to see if the move helps recruiting for the added schools.

Big 12 is in good shape.

We will see. TV money is going to sink when their contract comes up for renewal. Might take a few years to resonate. Might have to go undefeated in the new (again) Big 12.

Don’t forget OU, they are still in the hunt as of now.

Their fine in this snapshot in time.....with OU and Texas still in conference.

They likely retain liquidity and be financially viable into the future with the additions, but the you're relying on non traditional football powers who're having years well above their typical years to sustain a conference. That's unlikely.

The dollars might drop some, but we know first-hand that dollars do not translate into wins. Nebraska and Texas are awash with cash, yet are unable to get more Ws than Ls.

It’s nice to know that money can’t completely destroy college athletics.

No, but point being, they will have much less money to spend. Meaning, they might struggle to pay for the best coaches, facilities, etc….

Could be. But I think we might be surprised as to how good the money is, when a new deal is completed. The new additions aren’t exactly chopped liver.

The answer is yes. The B12 will be much better off. BYU has tuxes monies and there are more tv’s to gain because trailer houses in okie normally only have one tv anyhow.
