"The Nebraska wrestling team had two individuals take first place in their respective weight-class pools at the Grand View Open on Saturday. Overall, more than 40 teams competed at the open along with 14 Huskers making the trip to Pleasant Hill, Iowa. In addition to the first-place performances, five Nebraska grapplers recorded top five finishes.

Wrestlers from the 10th-ranked Huskers, No. 1 Iowa, No. 3 Missouri, No. 14 Iowa State, No. 16 Northern Iowa and No. 25 Northwestern among others were placed into different divisions and pools and advanced based on their results.

In the freshman/sophomore division, Quinton Chavez (125) recorded a win against Cowley's Angel Avila and took his consolation match against Doane's Russell Nickerson to an extra period, but fell 4-2. At 141, Blake Cushing went 6-2 on the weekend and recorded a 4th-place finish. Nic Stoltenberg (157) won his first four matches before falling to Iowa State's Andrew Huddleston. He bounced back and finished in fifth place. Also at 157, Joshua Licking competed but fell in the opening and the consolation rounds. To close out this division, Elise Brown Ton (174) finished in third place with a win over Providence's Bridger Hill, and Zak Taylor (197) lost in the consolation round but tallied a win against Zach Choate (unattached) due to medical forfeit.

In the open division, Boo Dryden (133) took home the crown. He defeated Lincoln College's Blake Cagle and Northwestern's Manuel Jaramillo in the opening rounds before recording wins in the quarters and semis. In the championship bout, Dryden won by decision over fellow Husker Dominick Serrano. Serrano also had a day for himself at the open as he recorded a 4-1 mark including two pins.

At 149, Kevon Davenport went 2-2 on the day as he recorded wins over Ryan Ojeda of Grand View and Ja Melle Dye of Ottawa. Jagger Condomitti (165) had a good showing as he won his first three matches of the day before falling to Iowa State's Isaac Judge. He made it to the third-place match but lost a close 4-2 decision to take fourth.

Nathan Haas (184) was the Huskers' second champion of the day as he recorded four-straight wins and a 10-4 decision in the championship match over Grand View's Ben Lee. "

At 174, Labriola continued his early-season success as he won three straight bouts, including two pins, in route to a final's matchup against Iowa State's Joel Shapiro. In the championship match, Labriola recorded an escape in the second period and a takedown in the third to seal the first place finish, 3-2.

Freshman Allred, who wrestled unattached at 197, received a bye in the round of 16 before earning a technical fall in the quarterfinals and a pin in the semifinals against No. 1 seed Yonger Bastida of Iowa State. Allred wrapped up an impressive day in the finals as he pinned South Dakota's State Nick Casperson at 2:40.

Lance dominated the heavyweight division recording four straight wins including two major decisions and a 9-5 decision in the championship match over Iowa State's Sam Schuyler.

At 157, Robb earned a major decision and two decisions on his way to the championship match where he faced No. 1 seed David Carr of Iowa State. Robb recorded two takedowns and an escape, forcing an extra period as the two were tied 5-5 after three. Carr outlasted Robb and won 7-5.

Parrish started the day off strong with three straight wins and a place in the championship match at 149. In the finals, Parrish recorded a takedown but fell to the No. 4 seed Jarrett Degen of Iowa State, 13-2.

I was really disappointed with Red's performance. I do not think he even shot once during that match. I really liked him last year. Even when he lost he was aggressive. This whole match he was just a passive wrestler.

Yea me too but he has a history of that in past years. It seems he doesn't wrestle up to his potential until the B1G tournament.

I was impressed with Christian Lance. He looks much better now that he has a former NCAA Div II Champion and two-time Olympian [Bronze medal winner once] in Tervel Dlagnev to practice with!

Seven Huskers advanced to Friday night's quarterfinals and all seven qualified for Saturday's semifinal round. Finals
#3
Mikey Labriola (174) took on #6 Ethan Smith of Ohio State in the 174-pound title match on Saturday night. Labriola scored a takedown in sudden victory to secure the Cliff Keen individual title.

#14 Taylor Venz
(184) wrestled Kaleb Romero of Ohio State to a scoreless first period. Venz recorded three escapes but was unable to hold off Romero who tallied three takedowns and won by decision 7-3. Finished Second.

The final Husker to qualify for the Cliff Keen individual finals was #10 Eric Schultz (197) who matched up against #9 Stephen Buchanan (Wyoming). Schultz, coming off an upset over Jake Woodley (OK) in the semifinals, attacked first with a takedown in the first period and grabbed the 2-1 lead. Schultz started the second period with an escape, but Buchanan found his footing and defeated Schultz by decision 7-3. Finished Second.

Third-Place Bouts
#13 Christian Lance (285) scored four takedowns and an escape, upsetting #6 Tate Orndorff of Ohio State 9-4 to secure a third-place finish.

#12 Ridge Lovett (149) joined Lance as a third-place finisher after #4 Yahya Thomas of Northwestern medically forfeited.

To close out the third-place bouts, #11 Chad Red Jr. (141) became the third Husker to place third as he defeated Cole Mattin of Michigan 6-1.

#6 Peyton Robb lost by medical forfeit to #13 Jacob Wright of Wyoming. (sixth)

Seventh-Place Bouts
Bubba Wilson (165) came up short against #31 Joshua Ogunsanya of Columbia, as he was pinned in the third period. Wilson finished in eighth place.
