Bye Week Presser 10 November: Coach Frost

Cam Taylor-Britt

For the 1st month of season, til we threw in the towel and went santio panico on returns it was a huge issue… but I guess that’s not the return ‘team’ that’s a ‘specialist’
And why is that? I thought Oliver Miller was one of the fastest guys on the team, and, one of the better testing athletes? Is he scared back there, or does NU offer up no resistance on the gunners? I don’t get it. He looks helpless back there, like, oh Dear Lord, please let me just catch it. He’s supposed to be a helluva athlete.

Absolutely. This has been my concern. Frost should’ve been making changes in year two… year three for sure. But he didn’t.

And honestly, Im still thinking that Frost needs to adjust his approach to the culture/mindset of the team. Hiring new assistants may help with that, but typically the head coach sets the vision/culture.

I really credit the hiring of Trev Alberts for all of this sudden change. I think TA had much more impact on the decisions than the narrative that’s out there. But that’s to be expected. Trev wants Scott to be credited for making these tough decisions on his own.

I’m guessing that those daily/weekly conversations they had, included topics related to Scott’s staff and “… doing the same thing and expecting different results.” And more nuanced conversations on topics like ROI… hence the salary/buyout adjustment.

The next steps will be very interesting… seeing who is brought onboard.
Actually he did. Lubick is not our first OC under HCSF.

I don’t know how he tested, I’ve heard some of the same, but I have not seen it on the field offensively or returnnn… errr catching punts. Oliver Martin has the looks of a fine possession receiver but I just don’t see anything special in regards to his punt return ability.
shane Swanson, rod smith, Nate turner…. We’re not Irving fryar type athletes but we’re cable return men. Has to be something else. Perhaps not having a special teams coach or anyone capable of the duty is viable reason??? Maybe

Allover Miller is not the answer

So Shane Rod and Nate are the guys who accept cable boxes for local cable companies?

As fat as he was, he was a pretty solid NBA player. Lol

Actually he did. Lubick is not our first OC under HCSF.

Fair enough, I should’ve said “significant changes”. And by significant I mean changes in areas that notably were problematic early on… lack of Special Teams coordinator, Offensive Line performance, lack of QB development at the starter and backup, etc.

Bringing in Lubick was too little too late.

Quite honestly, I wasn’t convinced (and it’s obvious now… hindsight being 20/20) that Lubick should be Frost’s choice for an OC. I think Frost played it safe and got another one of “his guys” from his past. Hiring Lubick basically perpetuated the “doing the same thing and expecting different results” situation.

Now with consultation/guidance from his boss ADTA, he realizes that “new voices and approaches” are needed.

It’s going to be really interesting to see who is brought in for the OC position.
