2 year extension for Frost

I don't think so. Since this happened only a few days ago I think he's going on about his business as usual. If things go south though, then I think he'll start to worry.
Big picture, Moos isnt worried, financially he is set for life, as is Frost, many times over. The things that matters most to them now are pride and legacy, no one wants to be remembered as a loser.

I'm not some crackpot in this. It's being talked about by more important folks than me. Heck, even Tom Osborne mentioned it. In fact, it's not the only reason Frost will be given a lot longer than other coaches might be to succeed here by the powers that be, but I'm certain it's one of them.
There are times when that great coach should shut up, this is one of them. Keeping casinoes and sports gambling out of Nebraska (and chasing NE money into Iowa) is another.

there are only so many of programs that would be able to take a coach away from NU. That coach's alma mater, ND, BAMA, OSU, etc. Maybe a dozen? And if one of those programs comes and offers our guy $10M then it means we must have had a few really fun years and are in a good situation.

Fear of that scenario should not drive poor decisions.
And, in that same vein...the departing coach is likely to have left a replacement candidate to remain. If say, Bob Devaney left us for Michigan State, maybe Tom Osborne gets the job? Would that have been so bad?

We should be happy we have a University and an administration that has the ability to make things like this happen and yet somehow we are not.

Baffling to me.

Moos and the University are building for the long haul. New facilities, removing any question of concern around the head coach's security, doing what they can to make us competitive and give Frost the time he needs to do this.

I'd love to see faster and better progress, but this will take time to do it right

Maybe. If Osborne wasn't quite ready and struggled a bit and then jumped at that Colorado job

And I hope as a group we can be patient enough to let it happen. We don't need to burn the boat before we reach the promised land.

He may be now, but hadn't he "retired" to cattle ranching once before and had to return to sports administration because, possibly, things weren't working out so well? I don't know his financial situation other than we offered him a semi-retirement parachute package to hire Frost that he snapped up quickly. True that we set him up going forward though. IMO, money drives him, but Frost truly loves NU and the State.

Maybe we end up with Monte Kiffin. Again, would that have been so bad?

Monte was a great coach, but never was a head coach and we have no idea if he could have run a program. We are in a unique situation for programs that have had any success since 1960 (when Minnesota last won a national title). The number of teams that are not in a talent rich state or adjacent to one is very small (Colorado, Washington, sorta BYU, and Nebraska), and we're the only one to have done it more than once.

Bama can switch coaches whenever they want and not lose their chances at winning a national title in 4-5 years. We can't let a top coach walk to the comfy recruiting locales of Florida and hope that any assistant (even someone like Kiffin) could keep things going

Monte actually was a HC at NC State in the early 80's and acheived NC state-like results...about .500 record. That said, taking over a dynasty would've been a much easier task for the Nebraska native and he quite likely would've been quite successful, though we'll never know for certain.

I prefer to be optimistic about the future and people as well. You should try it...the game isn't nearly as fixed against us as you suppose. Sadly, my optimism as relates to NU football/staff...has been misplaced for a long time. But SF still has the ability to reach success here and vindicate my optimism about him. But, if he doesn't work out...we can find a guy that will.

I'm very optimistic, but I'm realistic about how hard it is in a state like Nebraska (Minnesota's a great comp - 7 claimed national titles in their history.. the last one in 1960).

Frost is the right guy, IMO, but we shouldn't pretend that winning a national title here is the same as winning one for Florida or Florida State
