July Recruiting Grades and where we are at

Status
Not open for further replies.
Currently sitting at 11 commits, I took the rest of the day off because apparently everyone else in my company did as well. I'll take a look at where we stand recruiting and let you know who we are still in on and who I think we have a decent shot at. Some other knowledgeable posters can tell me where i'm off and we have been eliminated from, or who I forgot.

This list is based on us taking roughly 14 more guys, and obviously the numbers are fluid as a guy like Robinson I have listed at RB, but if he wants to commit and no one jumps ship, we are still taking him. I also don't for sure know where we are projecting some recruits like Pieper, Snodgrass, and Nelson before we talk about guys like Hickman that may play defense.

The grades are based on where we are right now. An A+ for RBs because we are locked and loaded, but a C+ for WRs as we still need to fill a few slots.

Quarterback (1 needed, 1 commit) A-
-Luke McCafferey - Highlands Ranch, CO
https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2019/luke-mccaffrey-30711
SUMMARY:
Doesn't get much better here. We identified our guy and reeled him in. A 3 or 4 star depending on the service you use. A- due to him not being the full-time starter, but I think that will quickly get bumped higher when we see what he can do as the head guy.

Runningback (3 needed, 3 committed) A+
-Ronald Thompkins - Loganville, GA
https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2019/ronald-thompkins-30542
-Rahmir Johnson - Oradell, NJ
https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2019/rahmir-johnson-182111
-Thomas Grayson - Tulsa, OK
https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2019/thomas-grayson-211107
POSSIBLES:
-Wandale Robinson - Frankort, KY
https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2019/wandale-robinson-184702
SUMMARY:
Thompkins with an Alabama offer, Johnson rated a 4 star, and Grayson in the mix, pretty easy to see why this is rated an A+. Crazy to think the 180 the RB room has made in regard to recruiting. That room is going to be stacked and loaded. While I do think we lose Grayson, a guy like 4 star Wandale Robinson as your "Plan B" (we would take him no matter what) is a great way to keep your options open.

WIDE RECEIVER (3 needed, 1 committed) C+
-Jamie Nance - Blanchard, OK
https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2019/jamie-nance-184472
POSSIBLES:
-Mycah Pittman - Calabasas, CA
https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2019/mycah-pittman-182490
-Rahsee Rice - North Richland Hills, TX
https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2019/rashee-rice-189763
-Demariyon Houston - Oklahoma City, OK
https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2019/demariyon-houston-145179
SUMMARY:
C+ here with only one commit that definitely doesn't wow you like a Thompkins or McCafferey commit. However, we are in on some big time fire power with four stars Pittman and Houston seriously considering us, and guys like Rice already have visited. I have a feeling this board will do nothing but get better with the years our WRs will have.

OFFENSIVE LINE (4 needed, 2 committed) C-
-Desmond Bland - Yuma, AZ
https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2019/desmond-bland-183734
-Matthew Anderson - Leesville, LA
https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2019/matthew-anderson-216283
POSSIBLES:
-Danielson Ike - Kansas City, MO
https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2019/danielson-ike-181946
-Enokk Vimahi - Kahuku, HI
https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2019/enokk-vimahi-180736
-Chris Akporoghene - Bradenton, FL
https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2019/chris-akporoghene-181887
-Bryce Benhart - Lakeville, MN
https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2019/bryce-benhart-195686
SUMMARY:
If not for Bland, this would be in the D's. My glass is half full, i'm not worried because of the high caliber guys that have us in their top list that they stated are going to visit. My glass is half empty, if i had to make a prediction right now, we will end up in these recruits top5/8 and not land their commitment. So we will be relegated to lower "diamonds in the rough" and coaching them up, or my better guess is new guys will emerge that I haven't listed. Hoping for the latter. I wouldn't worry here, just need to keep working our board.

TIGHT END/H-BACK (1 needed, 0 committed) N/A
POSSIBLES:
-Chris Hickman - Omaha, NE
https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2019/chris-hickman-
SUMMARY:
I have heard basically nothing about anyone at this position other than Hickman, which worries me as I don't think we are his leader right now, and heck we may even be looking at him at OLB. I really don't have a ton to add here until our numbers shake out a bit with Engelhaupt and Snyder, and Hickman pulls the trigger on where he will commit.

DEFENSIVE LINE (3 or 4 needed, 2 committed) C
-Garrett Nelson - Scottsbluff, NE
https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2019/garrett-nelson-203945
-Ethan Piper - Norfolk, NE
https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2019/ethan-piper-88767
POSSIBLES:
-Ty Robinson - Gilbert, AZ
https://nebraska.rivals.com/offers/football/2019
-Tony Fair - Yuma, AZ (JUCO)
https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2019/tony-fair-226762
-Mosai Newsom - Waverly, IA
https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2019/mosai-newsom-180930
SUMMARY:
So I probably need to explain, as Snodgrass and Nelson allow some flexibility here. I feel really good right now about Newsom and Robinson, and I know Nelson is slated as an OLB, but I see him being like Stille. Where once he gets out of wrestling and can put weight on how he pleases, he will get monstrous. The other question mark is with the addition of the Utah graduate transfer, are we taking another NG? Absolutely if the right one comes along, but do we want it to be a JUCO guy like Tony Fair? We are sitting good there, just not sure how we play it. Will Piper put on the weight to be a NG guy that takes Stoltenbergs place? If so, we may be done at NG. Bottom line is we need Robinson IMO, after that everything is gravy.

OUTSIDE LINEBACKER (3 needed, 1 committed) D
-Garrett Snodgrass - York, NE
https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2019/garrett-snodgrass-182905
POSSIBLES:
-Jermaine Johnson - Independence, KS (JUCO)
https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2019/jermaine-johnson-214368
-Ge'Mond Eaford - Deerfield Beach, FL
https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2019/ge-mon-eaford-10253
SUMMARY:
Quite honestly, this one is a bit perplexing to me. Snodgrass is slated here for me, but provides flexibility to move inside for some depth. However, with how we are looking at ILB not sure we need him to do that (more on that next section). Johnson and Eaford are extreme long shots, and that's all i've heard about for the most part. Our depth at OLB is actually quite good when you look at Dixon, Tannor, Ferguson, Gifford, Miller, and Thomas. That's before you throw guys like Paup in there, so this position isn't as dire. But we just don't have a ton cooking. Unlike OL, it's not as worrisome with who is already in the program and how they did in the 2018 class, but it's a position group to keep an eye on.

INSIDE LINEBACKER (2 needed, 1 committed) A-
-Jackson Hannah - Nashville, TN
https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2019/jackson-hannah-166459
POSSIBLES:
-Nick Henrich - Omaha, NE
https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2019/nick-henrich-185709
SUMMARY:
It starts and stops with closing on Henrich. When we reel him in, this class will be the second best position group for the 2019 class behind RBs. It does not get better than Hannah and Henrich. Those guys are 1A and 1B on our board. Heck of a job by Barrett Ruud. Now the question becomes, if OLB stalls, do we move a guy like Hannah outside, do we have another guy on our ILB board that could play OLB? Will be interesting to watch. But this ILB room gets thin in a hurry. Our top 4 of Young, Barry, Honas, and Weinmaster are going to only have one year left when Hannah and Henrich get here, and Roberts seems to be the only thing that can make a push. I almost think we will take a grad transfer or JUCO here for 2019. But this has gone about as well as it can.

DEFENSIVE BACK (4 needed, 0 committed) N/A
POSSIBLES:
-Tiawan Mullen - Cocunut Creek, FL
https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2019/tiawan-mullen-183355
-Quinton Newsome - Suwanee, GA
https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2019/quinton-newsome-208695
-Javin Wright - Chandler, AZ
https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2019/javin-wright-184229
-Marcus LaFrance - Lauderdale Lakes, FL
https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2019/marcus-lafrance-195770
SUMMARY:
Biggest need in the entire 2019 class is corner. Gotta have at least two and i'm taking 3 if i'm Frost. I'm thinking Mullen is ours (as of right now) and that's a massive get. But after that, I only really see Wright committing to us. I think once the season starts and we can show lack of depth, things will really change. You also have a guy like Mike Hughes at UCF that hopefully our staff can pull in that we don't even know about right now. But the bottom line is Chinander and Fisher have to get to work here. No reason to worry, we just need corners. We will start landing some.

It's Piper, not Pieper.

Do you think he's definitely slotted for D? I thought he looked more promising at OL.

Good thread. Here are a few guys you "missed" who from what I've heard are giving Nebraska a pretty hard look: Cameron Coleman (WR-Missouri), Brieon Fuller (WR-Florida), WR Langston Anderson (WR-Texas), WR Donte Banton (WR-Florida), Grant Treiber (OT-South Dakota), Michael Lynn (OT-Colorado), Brayden Rohme (OT-Arizona), Chester Graves (OLB-JUCO). I've heard some other names at OLB like Lloyd Summerall plan to OV, but like Mycah Pittman, I think he's a huge longshot.

As for the in-state kids, pretty sure I've heard the staff is leaning towards Snodgrass starting at ILB. IMPO Piper is definitely a NG prospect. His numbers at the FNL (6-3, 279, 4.8 40, 30" vertical) were impressive and he reportedly really stood out during one-on-ones. If it were me, he definitely gets moved inside and handed over to Duval while Damion Daniels takes over for a few years - hopefully with the help of Tony Fair.

As for Chris Hickman, I've also heard the staff likes him as an OLB and are recruiting him there - not TE. Not sure if they are sort of saying that's where we want you, but if you prefer TE we still want you and you can play there instead? IMPO, the reason we aren't hearing much from TE recruiting other than Hickman is because they should (IMPO) skip the position this year. They have a big need at CB and OT and are going to continue to transform the skill position (RB and Duck-R guys) on the roster. With youngsters like Stoll, Rafdal and Austin all having at least 3 more years of eligibility, along with the flexibility of hybrids like Justin McGriff and Katerian Legrone, not to mention a guy like Cameron Jurgens (if he sticks to TE and doesn't move to LB) being in that room, I think with the numbers being the way they are, that recruiting spot earmarked for a TE would be better served on a OL or DB or a guy like Wandale Robinson who I agree is a take no matter what.

As for ILB, I would move Pernell Jefferson inside. JMPO. Circling back to Jurgens, I think he is someone the staff has in their back pocket in case they fall short on someone at outside LB in this class. If they can't add someone like Eaford or Graves, they can always move Jurgens.

This is what you got from his post, or at least felt the need to lead with - let alone mention at all?

Now I know why most of these discussions happen in PM's and the main board is dying.
I'm only trying to help.

Try talking about Jason Peters or Tom Osbourne on the football board.

Maybe you're part of the reason the main board is dying?

Great post, ***. Work has been crazy these last few months for me so I haven't been able to track our "offseason" recruiting as much so this helps in a big way.

Do you know how we have our recruiting territories broken out? It seems like Held is after everyone and from there, I don't really know who covers what ground.

You need to stop and stop now or your gone in this thread. What you have done in this thread is what are tired of as am I. You post again other than to discuss the subject and your gone and will get a couple of days off to boot
