Why

yes, the coaches need to step it up in a few areas. One thing though, do you really believe, past program success be damned, every coach that is good, or viewed to be good, should be able to turn a program around in 1-2 years?

just wondering what your thoughts on this is..
Good coaches, yes in 2-3 years for sure.....just look around it happens. In year 2 you don't have to be winning but see improvement which we really can't see right now.

This thread is so predictable, so resemblant of the past, it is almost embarrassing. Same ol, same ol, just like five years ago, ten years ago, 15 years ago, 20 years ago, and so it goes. Nothing changes, and it appears the current regime is just the same as all the previous ones. Pathetic!
How many season tickets do you think we will sell for next season? Now that the new venue syndrome is taken care of, what else is there to draw decent crowds?

ISU, IOWA, Michigan, OU, KSU Arizona, need to keep going, lot's more than these.

What did these programs accomplish with the very first coach that brought them out of the basement, in year 2-3 mind you? Also, tell me which coach brought each of these out of the basement? Don't forget, NU is as basement as basement can be.

This is your argument, so I am just asking for facts is all.. If you don't want to provide them no big deal.

Iowa had 4 NU type seasons (below 500) since 2000-2001. Not the same at all.
NCAA Tournament appearances

1955, 1956, 1970, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997, 1999, 2001, 2005, 2006

I went to wiki and found ISU is also not in the same basement league as NU.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iowa_State_Cyclones_men's_basketball
ISU tourney appearances..
NCAA Tournament appearances
1944 · 1985 · 1986 · 1988 · 1989 · 1992 · 1993 · 1995 · 1996 · 1997 · 2000 · 2001 · 2005 · 2012 · 2013

NU has 6 total..

Michigan.. nope not the same planet as NU
NCAA Tournament appearances
1948, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1992*, 1993*, 1994, 1995, 1996*, 1998*, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013

OU? did you really even bring up OU? Do you know anything about OU and it's basketball past? I'm guessing not.

NCAA Tournament appearances
1939, 1943, 1947, 1979, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1992, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2013

KSU? WAY more tourney appearances than NU

Arizona, Seriously? Are you jsut pulling names out of a hat?

NCAA Tournament appearances
1951, 1976, 1977, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999*, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2013

Not one of these teams, at any point, had as big a hurdle as NU has.

While all of those programs have had more success than NU in the past when I think of KSU, ISU and Iowa I would probably point to them and say..."well, there's proof that you CAN build an NCAA tourney type program at NU." There's absolutely nothing about Iowa State and Ames, IA that says they should have any more success than NU. But they have, on occasion, made the "right hire". Same at Iowa and KSU. People want to act like there's some sort of geographical law that Nebraska can't have a good basketball program. That's simply excuse making. Unlucky with some hires? Sure. Too patient with a couple? Absolutely. It can be done and eventually NU will have a coach that get's the ball rolling like Nee did. I doubt that coach would stay long but hopefully success will breed success. Still...1.5 years into Miles' tenure is too soon to get too up in arms. If you see this type of play in years 3 and 4 then it's time to start wondering...

OU and Arizona aren't applicable at all.

All these new coaches went to teams that were down and in 2-3 years are back at the top, but I give up. There are plenty more but now it is from the basement or they have had success in the past.

I guess we will just see what Miles can do but Groce was a better choice. so far not very good improvement and you would have to agree on that.

yes, it is the basement.. that is where NU is at. You most certainly have to take into account what NU has had to this point... which is nothing.

I have no idea if Miles will be better or not... just think he should have more time to prove it. Some of those programs did go through a down period, no doubt about.. but they have plenty of success to help draw in good recruits when the right coach was hired.

not giving you a hard time for your opinion, just making my case is all. :)

Agreed, those schools show it can be done at NU, and I fully expect it to happen at NU. I just hope the admins do their part.

I appreciate the feedback. I hope you find the right leadership, cause from this vantage point you are not even close to being the part of any conversation. Manhatten Ks can do it, but Lincoln can't?

Recruit better basketball players and things will turn around...its truly that simple. Get kids who are willing to pay the price.

You don't understand! The better players don't want to come to Nebraska; they want to go where they believe they will win, get to the Tourney and be successful. It's that "simple". This way, they don't have to "pay the price".

Correct me if I am wrong, but you are not talking about recruiting an army. You just need a handful of players to make an improvement.

You better bookmark this thread for future reference.

Coach Miles is making it happen. Give him time.

OK, why is it, we can't get a "handful"?? Yeh, right!
