Pulled this out of the other thread. Game #2 against Brazil in a classic on Monday morning. The DVR is set.

We're sitting on top of our group with China.

Aug. 1: USA vs. China, 8 p.m. (noon PT)

I tuned in to the USA vs. China game just now online and there's no play-by-play. With all the money NBC spent to get rights to US broadcasting rights, couldn't they find two people to call this game?

Some of the online action has play-by-play (usually British announcers), and some does not have any audio. The match was live on NBC. There was play-by-play on the television.

A fine showing by the ladies. Now the only unbeaten team in the group.

75 minutes until the US vs. Turkey match. My schedule shows it on the local NBC channel.

This is the final match for the US in group play. The US has already clinched the top of group B and plays the 4th place team from Group A (Dominican Republic) on Tuesday at 1 PM Nebraska time.

Japan on the Group A has clinched 3rd position in the knockout round. Group A co-leaders Russia and Italy are playing right now for Group A 1st and 2nd spots. The 2nd place team ends up on our side of the knockout bracket.

In Group B, only Serbia is eliminated. China and South Korea are moving on for sure (China beat So.Korea earlier this morning); but, positioning is not known. Either Turkey or Brazil gets the final spot.

If Turkey beats us 3-0 or 3-1, I think that they'll get the #2 spot based on total games won. China then is #3 and So.Korea #4. If Turkey would beat us 3-2, they'd only get 2 points and be tied with South Korea in total points. China would be #2, Turkey #3, and So. Korea #4.

In the more likely scenario where we beat Turkey, Turkey could still gain a point if they lose 3-2; but, that is still not enough to pass South Korea. They'd then need to rely on the results of the Brazil vs. Serbia match that follows our match. If Brazil would lose to Serbia, Turkey is in as the #4 team. However, if Brazil wins and Turkey loses 3-0 or 3-1, the Brazilians move on as the #4 team. If Brazil wins and Turkey loses 3-2, those two teams are tied in total points and Turkey would move on based on total games won (11 vs. 10).

Whew, that was fairly complicated - standings and knockout brackets found on wikipedia:
