Anyone else see the irony in Tommie Frazier's cousin getting beat out by a guy named Tommy?

If Armstrong is the #2 guy, I wouldn't be surprised to see Carnes transfer.

Agree, especially since there is really no competition for the #1 job yet.

Not if he spoke to Tommie's momma!

Tweets and post are all fine and dandy, but I would like to see it...... We heard the same reports about the Progress Martinez is having with his throwing motion and footwork but when BTN comes through Lincoln what was quoted was "Martinez will never be a great thrower" which led me to believe that all the hype was being thrown just to get fans to stop nagging about his throwing ability. Similar to last year when we heard SOOOOOO MUCH about him being a better leader. Yet, he showed to be the same old up and down TM that we saw the first year. And from what I've saw thus far of fall camp, Martinez's throwing motion doesn't look much different than it one did.
So with that I still find it hard to understand why so many would push raw athletic ability in front of experience (in the system) in Carnes & Kellogg. If the gap was that big, then the staff would have said he's the #2 by now. I think it's all just speculation and a bit of favoritism for the new comer as it always is. I said that Martinez's huge flaw was conducting the offense and being able to distribute the ball after his performance in his first spring game. I was labeled a "player basher" and yet two seasons later everyone including the media critiques those same attributes (to death). I'm saying now that There really is no reason to throw Armstrong in right now only for him to get limited snaps handing off the ball because he can't possibly know the playbook as well as Carnes and Kellogg. Last year even our starter expressed how confused he and the OC were at times. Now we are suppose to think that Armstrong came in and knows it well enough to be the closest to unseat Martinez. Cody Green was a smart player and yet even after a spring in the season, he only new 15 plays by the time the first kickoff started the season.

I'm with ya RR... Tommy is going to be a real gamer and Stanton appears to be a very solid recruit for the future so let the best man win the backup. GBR

Whoever turns out to be the #2 has to get some snaps in a real game. I don't see how we can go another entire season and never play our second string QB!

I agree with this as you can't really replicate game experience on the practice field. I'd be stoked if Armstrong is #2 and if he really pushes Martinez to be better...all the better for the team.

Does Brion Carnes struggle in practice? The coaches seem to have very little faith in him.

Exactly! Competition is never a bad thing and I really think T-Mart needs someone pushing him. He has to know that if for whatever reason he's not getting the job done that there is a legitimate option ready to come in and take his place.

A lot of things would have been different last year if we had someone the coaches were confident in behind Taylor. It was definetely Carnes at number 2, but he would throw pick 6's in practice that just were so mind-boggling it was scary. Couple that with the fact that Taylor did need more work, and I see what the coaches were doing. Granted, if we got up 17 or so points he would mostly be handing off, but that's not going to get him much experience running the offense.
This year will be different, of course we need to make sure we're ahead...

Hard to argue that....

Notre Dame only had one Rudy but Nebraska gets a new crop of Rudys every season

That is pretty much it...

You can redshirt a guy who is 3rd string - but not 2nd string. If Armstrong in establishing himself as the second best qb - and doing it this fast, he deserves to play. Don't overthink it. The team needs 2 QBs - it doesn't make any sense to save a year now so that he has a year of eligibility in 2016. By then, we'll have recruited 4 more guys that can take his place.

Offseason is when hope springs eternal for sports fans, so I'm sure that when "Taylor Martinez is working with Steve Calhoun out in southern California" makes its way through peoples' CPUs, it's almost a natural tendency to have "Taylor Martinez is going to be a completely different quarterback this fall" come out the other end, regardless of whether the media spiced things up or not. Old habits die hard, as anyone who plays a sport or a musical instrument or does anything else that takes lots and lots of practice can attest to, and the reality is he might do one or two things better, but he will still look like he's launching footballs into orbit more often than not.
If you think education is expensive, try ignorance.

I dont understand the love for Carnes. He hasnt shown anything. Granted, he hasnt been in too many games but from those that do see him in practice know his ability and evidently it isnt of starter or backup quality.

That's what I had heard as well. I'm guessing that the fans clamoring for him in games didn't have that information.

Probably not, but I see it from their side as well because they just see us getting our doors blown off by Michigan or Wisconsin and wonder what the heck is going on with the backup. In reality you put him in and he throws a pick 6 or two because the game is a wee bit faster during games and those turn more embarassing then they were, especially if you put him in while there's still a fighting chance.
