Romney introducing Ryan as the next POTUS got we wondering about something. If Romney is voted in as the POTUS and dies between the election and the swearing in ceremony, does Ryan become President? I would think so but wasn't sure.

Ryan would be sworn as Pres and he would need to select a VP

The better question would be what would happen if a candidate wins on election day in November and then dies before the Electoral College counts the votes in December?

The Secret Service will be knocking on your door soon to discuss why you think Romney will die if he wins.
What if it was between now and the convention? Would it then go to Santorum as the next highest delegate holder, or to Ryan as the VP designee of the person who was going to be the nominee?

I think it would be up to the delegates at the convention. Depending on the state, I'm not sure they are bound to vote for the person that won the popular vote. The same thing could be said about Obama... what if something happened between now and the convention with him? Obviously Biden would be the President, but I can't imagine that Hillary Clinton wouldn't make a push to get herself nominated at the convention.

You are correct that it would be left to the delegates to decide at the convention. It would definitely be Hillary.
