BTN Football Preview: NU
They asked Beck about TM's improved passing mechanics.
He said he was proud of how he went out and got help.
they then showed clips of four passes he threw at practice, and here is what I noticed:
More zip on the ball, less air under it.
He's not throwing off his back foot.
He appeared accurate (unjudgeable, considering the small sample size).
Hope he becomes the efficient passer we need him to be. I also hope we are never in third and long, a situation where he will be forced to throw when the defense knows it.

"I love it here," Pelini said. "I've said this before: This is not a steppingstone job. This is a destination. I enjoy what I'm doing here, I love who I'm working with, I love who I'm working for. I'm not looking for another job. I'm committed to winning a championship here. I'm passionate about winning a championship here."

I saw this too. I don't care about his arm mechanics as much as the footwork. I think Martinez has it in him to be a 60-65% passer, if his footwork is correct and he doesn't throw off the back foot. Frost had "non-traditional" arm mechanics, but he stepped into the throw and connected. If Martinez consistently steps into his throws, he will be a threat.

Loved it!!! Lots of coach speak...players gushing with optimism....what you would expect....but I really enjoyed the commentary from the BTN guys...and the practice footage is rare...almost like spotting bigfoot!

Guys seemed pretty high on NU, but it's the BTN...
I wish that Tim Beck wouldn't use the 'football is war' metaphors though. It's not war. It's football.

Funny, what I saw looked to be the same. I wondered if anything had changed. But, as you stated, it was a very small sample size. Not to mention the camera angles weren't exactly TV angles.

Agree totally. A battle perhaps............... but war is just a ridiculous comment IMO.
Is it to early to say.............Go Army!! Beat Navy ?
''There are people you can admire from a distance and then when you get up close you see all the warts,'' he said. ''That's not been my experience with Tom. It's been fun to interview head coaches with him and to see the national respect and awe they have of his reputation.'' - Harvey Perlman 9/26/12

Anyone remember any comments last year by Dinardo re: Martinez? Would love to know as my impression watching the preview special was Dinardo did not want to say anything bad about Martinez but he is of the opinion Martinez did not improve much, if any, from last season and either cannot or is simply not likely to see much more improvement.

Must be in the eye of the beholder because i could have sworn i saw better footwork and much more zip on the ball, especially when it looked like he was throwing a medium to deep route. Of course this is all with out the threat of being hit but i also thought I saw him finishing the throw by transfering weight to his front foot.
Can you tell I really want him to be improved?!

Not going to lie, still looked like part shot-put/part 4th grader shooting a basketball to me.
