After some comments I've heard from some people about Taylor throwing the ball to defenders I thought I would look at the stats and see where he stands compared to others. I limited it to three stats I thought would be useful: interceptions per game, interceptions per 100 pass attempts, and interceptions per 10 touchdowns (a way to measure risk/reward I thought).
After reviewing the numbers it appears that although the overall number of interceptions for Taylor is low (8), when put in these ratios he could show some improvement in this area.
For what its worth, I believe he does that this year as he and his receivers will be more on the same page and have a better feel for what they're doing. I know of at least one time where a miscommunication on a route led to an int. Also because as you look at his stats after the Wisconsin (8 games) debacle, Martinez threw just 3 picks. Good enough to move his stats to 0.38 per game, 1.71 per 100 attempts, and 3.33 per 10 tds.
Also interesting to see where a few of the notables ended up as well. I picked them based on being drafted or bringing a lot of attention.
Anyway interesting info....looking forward to the season starting!
Note on the stats: all came from NCAA.com
Players must have played in at least 75% of their team's games. The 100 players on the list provided on NCAA.com did not include qbs from Ohio state, Indiana, Penn state, or Minnesota.
