Have you seen it more than once? I think the brilliance isn't really appreciated until about the third viewing.

Probably wouldn't have thought about that on my own, but I agree.
I'm sure that plenty of people here will jump all over me for it, but I think the Lord Of The Rings movies were WAY overrated. Boring as hell, too. The books were ok, but they just kept dragging on and on and on and on.........
I liked the movies, thought the books were a complete snore. Tolkien fans hate to hear it, but even he copped to not being much of a writer. 6 pages dedicated to the heritage of a shrubbery the gang walks by, two lines to cover the fight they got in on the other side of it. Nope, not for me.
I love love love Inception. Definite top 10 all time movie for me.
And I am also on the Lebowski hater bandwagon, and I am a Coen Brothers fan and have given it about 3 viewings to see if it stuck with me. It has a few moments but it's cute for cute's sake most of the time, constantly patting itself on the back for how cool it is without really having the endless stream of funny that, say, their Raising Arizona had.

thank you Joe, when i logged on and saw this title I knew exactly what i was going to claim and there you beat me to it. It confounds me why people think this is some classic. A basic rule of mine is if Steven Bauer is in it, it can't be a good movie

Great cast. And a chainsaw. And his little friend to say hello to. What's not to love?
Anyway, a recent entry on this front would be The Descendants, a movie I was really inclined to like as I'm always rooting for Alexander Payne and have more or less enjoyed everything else he's done. This was pretty flat and dull.
This is why we all have opinions I loved the descendants and loathe anything dePalma especially this movie.
DePalma in my opinion is the most contrived filmmaker there ever has been.

One of my favorite quotes is from Batman Returns:
(after Penguin pushed the girl off the top of the building)
Catwoman: (surprised) You said you were going to scare her.
Penguin: She sure look scared to me!

Those voters/posers don't know anything about animation.
Worse injustice ever.
I actually liked CARS too....Guido is awesome!
And I'm pretty sure CARS has won the financial war going away...they've made a ton of money compared to Happy Feet.

Not about money. It's about respect/recognition for the craft/effort.
It is exceedingly more difficult to animate an inanimate object (e.g. car) than it is to animate an animal. And the rumble/scatter of gravel from a passing car versus a damn bird flipper? Puh-leez!
The Cars creators got jobbed because snot-nosed kids and soccer moms titter over dancing/singing penguins and don't understand the americana appeal of muscle cars and racing and the nostalgia of Route 66 and the heartbreak of the demise of small towns and roadside diners/attractions and the way we used to travel and live.

you got my vote!
PS I used to live right on Route 66...you make some excellent points in your arguments for CARS to win....I yield.
