Some pregame notes:

Santa Margarita returns 15 starters, including 6-foot-2, 220-pound dual-threat QB Johnny Stanton (Nebraska commit), from a team that not only won the California Southern Section Pac-5 championship but the State Division I Bowl championship. It enters this season as the No. 1 team in the nation by Rivals.com and No.2 by USA Today. It is widely regarded as California's best high school team. And that's a pretty big state.

Wow....two games in three days....

Phoenix Brophy Prep football coach Scooter Molander knew for some time about this week: a Wednesday game to open the season against Glendale Mountain Ridge, then the gigantic task of trying to compete with Rancho Santa Margarita Catholic on Saturday night at Phoenix College with ESPN2 tuning in.

If you like HS football this is a great weekend. I used to think putting HS events on TV was ridiculous but football is football and 99 percent of the kids are playing because they just love the game, not because they're getting a college scholarship out of it. Besides, if ESPN is paying the HS money they can use to improve the school overall that can only be a good thing.

RR and anyone else who might know, is Nebraska in on any players in any of the other games on ESPN networks this weekend?

Really happy they're getting another KC pair on. I was a senior when Rockhurst faced up against Blue Springs South, and we trashed 'em. Easily one of my most memorable days of senior year. Fantastic for the students, the parents, the community, and the program.

Looking forward to watching this one.

Yeah...Big opportunity for the two schools. Last year Staley went on to win the Class 5 Championship but we lost two studs to graduation. RB Stewart went on to Mizzou and LB Lohn went to Stanford.
