He has earned being a top level recruit, that isn't nothing. Kinda like earning a Ph.D, trying to negotiate a higher salary, and having someone say you haven't earned a thing yet......

At the HS level that equates to being a gifted athlete and deciding to show up to practice.

It's quite a bit more than that.

Besides being a gifted athlete and showing up for practice, for starters...I would assume he might actually need to have performed well in actual games. I suppose being a reasonable team mate and having at least a generally positive attitude, would be necessary as well. And, in this day and age being a gifted athlete may not be quite enough, he might be required to keep up in the weight room as well. Not sure why you don't think grades or test scores need to be earned either...but maybe you are closer to this than I am.

I went a little off the reservation, here. I agree with you both, but have some concerns that most of these 5* prospects aren't always the most well rounded humans. This kid needs a big dose of reality and either college or the pros (if he is truly that gifted) will be a rude awakening when there are others just as good, if not better. As mentioned before, I cannot imagine any recruit pulling this crap on HCBP.

Yeah, he just shows up. No work outs, no lifting, no keeping in shape, no camps, just show up.

Which is why I retracted my statement.

if i had the kinda of leverage to help get a close friend a college education payed for, i would do it in a heart beat...all dabo (clemson) has to do to regain the leverage is to say no thanks. as has been said before this is old news in college football as i am pretty sure about a few huskers that were 'buddy' schollies back in the early 90's when i was at NU. realistically not a big deal as over half of the schollies given out are to non contributors (on the field) anyway. as for bo, im guessing he would jmp at the opertunity to get the best player in the country to look at nu for such a small price.

Do you really need a positive attitude to be considered "GREAT".......

No. But in this case, when a HS player needs others to reach his goal(s), it is always best to have a positive attitude or the player may not get the help he needs.
