Unhappy USA drops 8 spots in FIFA rankings to #36: Lowest since FIFA started rankings

Not surprised after our recent turn of events though....Wales has almost caught us....

What is so sad is its hard to argue we deserve any better right now....and that is very concerning....

EDIT: This is the lowest the USA has been ranked since the FIFA rankings started in 1993...

Will be interesting to see how this plays....if the heat was not on it is now....if this were England, Germany etc we would be looking for a new coach and I think if we slip up in September to Jamica we will be and a new head of US Soccer....

Well, the calculation is quite complex and other teams had ups and downs as well. Wales didn't play, so they didn't exactly "catch up" to us. For our calculation, dropping off the four year calculation was a tie with Argentina - replaced by a costly tie with a weaker Canada team that earned us fewer points than the Argentina tie. Also dropping off were two World Cup Qualifying victories over Barbados. Replaced by a World Cup Qualifying victory over Antigua (more points than Barbados had earned us four years ago) and the tie with Guatemala.

For those of us with mathematical minds, the way that they figure the current standings is quite interesting.

Fact of the matter is that the concacaf 'regional' multiplier keeps us from getting as much benefit rrom our Cup qualifiers than someone who played similar competition in the Euros. For example, let's say we beat Mexico, who is ranked 19th, in our August friendly. And, someone within UEFA beats Switzerland, ranked 21st. Our win gets discounted 12%, simply because Mexico is in Concacaf and Switzerland is in UEFA. I'm sure that there is a mathematical reason for building in the discount factor; but, the result is that it is better to beat a slightly lower ranked Switzerland team than the higher ranked Mexico team.

Also probably not a coincidence that most of the risers were doing well in the Euros or in their regional Cup qualifying.

I think that there is no question that our coach is with us as long as we're still alive in the Cup qualifying.

What you said is fine....but its always been true for as long as we have played soccer...when ever there is a EURO, GOLD CUP etc. and the fact of matter is we have never been ranked this low taking all of that into perspective....and honestly can anyone really say with a straight face we have made progress under Klinsman after one year at the helm? I do not think so. We have no idenity....what so ever....and look like a team who has no clue what we are doing...the players do not look like they are playing for this coach.....which is what happened to him at B. Munich and cost him his job...he lost the dressing room....he was a great player and appears to know talent...the coaching side of it I questioned when he was hired and even more so now....he has done nothing to convince me he was the right hire...as Dotsee said he can't get a job in Germany his own country even if he works for free and that should have and should raise eyebrows...

So what you say is true...but as I said its ALWAYS a factor....and we have never sat this low before...with it as a factor....so its no excuse...

We play Mexico in Azteca in Mexico City........we have never won their ever.....perhaps the most hostile environment in the world and 7,600 feet above sea level....and Mexico is ranked 17 spots higher than us (for a reason) and beat the same Brazil team we got blown out by just recently....

Lets be honest if this was Bob Bradley the chorus (and I'm not saying you) for his head would be overwhelming from the crowd that helped drum him out....the biggest difference is Bradley was only being paid $600K and Klinsman $2.5M....thus we should not only demand better but expect it for that kind of money...

I'm not sure I agree he will be with us if we stumble along the way....Mexico made the same mistake hiring Ericksson...and realized and replaced him in 2010 and it proved to be a correct and huge decision....

The CONCACAF Cup qualifying is set up for the USA and Mexico to qualify.....fool proof....should be easy....but we are not making it look that way....and that is concerning....very concerning...

I expect better...we should be better....there is no reason anymore to expect less than what Germany, England etc would....if we want to compete with the best...

Good discussion by the way even if we disagree...
