Scout: Coach Speak: Marcus Newby (Great Read)--Bo Making An Impact With Recruits
Notre Dame only had one Rudy but Nebraska gets a new crop of Rudys every season

Go Bo go...
One of the things that has helped seal the deal with so many recruits this spring and summer has been one on one time with head coach Bo Pelini while they were in Lincoln. Coach Mencarini said that he had plenty of time to meet with Coach Pelini and he has nothing but respect for how Bo runs his team, his defense and believes that Bo is heading the right direction with the program.

I liked this part:
“I had a great chance to talk with Bo while I was in Lincoln and let me just tell you that is a great human being and coach. I have the upmost respect for him. I really believe in what he’s doing at Nebraska with the program.”
That's not just lip service. I've said Bo isn't perfect and he's clearly learning on the job. But I do think we got the right guy running our program and, if we are patient enough, we'll get to where we all want to be, and with our heads held high.

We will get there....Rome wasn't built in a day, and especially would have had trouble if a regime came in and burnt it to the ground and had to start somewhat from the ground up...
I want instant gratification as much as the next person, I wish we were winning championships already. But the truth of the matter is, Bo had to create a difference in mentality as well as actually coach kids. Watch the end of the Oklahoma State game when everyone left at halftime, no matter how talented kids are, if you are dealing with kids that are doubting themselves and their superiors, you have to shock them back in to what you want them and expect them to be. One of the greatest quotes I heard from a coach that put things in perspective was "I had to teach them how to win". He basically said they were expecting to fail, another collapse was coming.
I sometimes wonder if Bo would have been better winning 6 games, then 7, then 8, then 9 so people could see the progress? But he was such a good coach that he got his first couple seasons for them to overachieve and that seems to make people think he can't win the big one because he's hit a lull.
He has stuff he needs to work on, everyone knows that. But we have the right guy...

POY candidate...
No its not perfect....but its getting better everyday....
And hearing this from a high school coach is proof positive...these guys don't deal in BS when it comes to who they give their players too as you well know...

Bingo.. Bo is learning on the job but I'm ok with that because of the stuff quoted by Newby's coach, we are in good hands with Bo. GBR

Folks forget Bo took over a major program in shambles as a young head coach and to watch his progress as a coach and person has been fun....in the long run folks are going to be very proud he was our coach....

I agree....people still holding things against him that happened two years ago when you can count on one hand how many years he has been a head coach. I'm sure he would even say there are things he would do differently. But he is growing as a coach, I fail to understand how others don't see that...

Shooting room elephants
I know we can't count it, but I also think some forget the 2009 Big 12 Championship game hose job. I know, I know, I know "get over it" But that robbery was not on Bo. By all rights he did everything a coach could to bring the championship to Lincoln. When evaluating a coach I think it should come into play.

Me either....

I can't think of a coach NCAA or NFL with more passion for the game, his players , or his family. As a Husker fan I'm not sure you could ask for much more in a coach. I believe Tom Osborne has done so much for Nebraska and hiring Bo Pelini ( when he could have easily hired Turner Gill a former player, friend, and very hot coach at the time ) had to be a difficult decision. It seems like great leaders can always make those tough decisions.
I believe Bo's making some incredible hires of his own .Papuchas and Eckler ( two graduate assistants who both become defensive coordinators in the BIG TEN) and now coach Els ( Outstanding 12 recruits from 9 different states) as recruiting coordinator, Coach Kaz,and Coach Joseph not to mention the three Graduate Assistant positions manned by former Huskers.
Bo Pelini is not without faults .Patience is an area that needs some growth he could be more patient with media (who have a job to do) and officals( not take the flags personnaly)and he's working in those areas.
Bo works hard with hours and hours of preparation and like many professionals he can't seem to tolerate referees or writers (who aren't prepared ) who don't work as hard to be prepared. It's obvious that many writers aren't nearly as prepared as they should be especially when they ask some VERY stupid questions ,ask questions he's already answered or said he wasn't going to answer.Officals miss a lineman who continues to hold ( like the South Carolina game), or throw a flag for an action that couldn't have any impact on a certain play then miss one that does ( no consistancy) have a huge impact. Bo's a passionate perfectionist and I don't see too much wrong with that. I'd never want to replace an ounce of his passion.
"My job as a football coach is to educate and prepare the kids who come into this program for the rest of their life..." Bo Pelini at the Penn State post game press conference Nov. 12 2011
