Yeah I read about him this morning....I'm not sure we have ever recruited a long snapper before....guess we have plenty of room in this class as I have been saying.....

Confirming this class will be in the 25-28 range in my honest opinion...

    Welcome Gabriel....

I watched some film on him this AM...I will go and find it again and post it....

    Confirmation:

Rubio Long Snapping@TheChrisRubioRECRUITING NEWS: Congratulations to Rubio Long Snapper Gabriel Miller on committing to the #Nebraska #Cornhuskers http://tinyurl.com/6putzcm

PJ was recruited but not offered a schollie right away. Recognizing this a position of need, obviously.

More on him....if Chris Rubio (long sanp guru) thinks this highly of him then we are getting a real GOOD one...Rubio is the voice and expert on Long Snappers....so I'm excited to have him onboard...

Miller continues to impress me. Love how coachable he is. Solid personality that makes him casual when he needs to be but can turn "it" on in a matter of seconds. Incredible drive. Form is impeccable and it is proven in his accuracy, consistency and speed. Doing a much better job of getting set and EXPLODING when he snaps. Very, very smooth snapper to watch. Moves well on his feet and is easily thick enough for the next level. No brainer scholarship Long Snapper. Someone will get lucky with this one. Great person.
Exceptional Long Snapper with thick, yet athletic frame that snaps rockets back to the punter. Form is phenomenal and his ball is very tight. If I was going to be picky, I would make sure he gets set even more with each snap. That is pretty much the only negative I can see. Blocking is solid and he will continue to work on it. Slowly but surely improved a true 5 star Long Snapper that is now ready for college. Great person and Long Snapper.

PJ's a SR and the only other LS on roster is rFR Rotherman. Hard to believe PJ is alrady a SR.

Like kickers these guys are not rated this early and franklyliek a kicker will be a 2-star because the services don't really know how ot rate them....

Chris Rubio (long snap guru) ranks him a 5-star at his position and the #3 Long Snapper in the country...

We have had about a decade of excellent long snapping. So much so, perhaps we take it for granted. We have generally had long-snappers walk on and then they earn the schollie after a couple of years. But if this is what it takes to get the long snapper we really need to keep up the tradition, I am all for it.

    More:

Gabriel is incredibly strong snapper both upper and lower body. He has good overall accuracy on both long and short snaps. Gabriel has good rotation with great snap velocity. He is consitent with snap times in the low to mid .7's finishing with an average snap time of .75 seconds at the Midwest Showcase Event in December of 2011. Gabriel has a quick release and smooth delivery which help with him getting back into protection during the snap and protect segment of camp. He was a top 10 finisher at the 2011 National Invitation Scholarship Camp. Gabriel was the 3rd place finisher and at the 2012 Underclassmen Challenge scoring 29/30 points and also snap competition finalist. He finished perfect on SS with 10/10 and an average snap time of .69 seconds. Gabriel continues to impress with his velocity and accuracy.

In a position like long snapper, the less you hear about someone, the better they are. We've been very fortunate in who we've gotten.

I think despite it not being a "flashy" commitment, it was a solid one. PJ Mangieri, iirc, was the top rated long-snapper in the country when when walked on at Nebraska. I dont think too many people would argue that Mangieri is worth the scholarship he now has, he is one of the NCAA's top long-snappers.

Gabriel Miller is coming into college with a similiar recruiting grade. With a class size north of 25, I think securing an important special teams position is a good move. I dont see why he couldnt have a similar career to Mangieri. The 2009 recruiting class that Mangieri was apart of was a 20-man class. Had the staff had 6, 7 more to offer I think Mangieri would have gotten one then too.

Hopefully he snaps more PAT than punts. I volunteered to learn to longsnap my senior year, was sorta fun, and in high school you couldn't hit me, so It didn't matter that I wasn't a lineman. First one down the field in coverage from the middle of the field.
