This afternoon I am flying my daughter up to summer camp near the Wisconsin Dells. At 133 nautical miles, this is by far the longest trip I have taken since getting my license. The weather conditions appear to be very good, but not ideal. Coming back home, I will be landing in a decent cross-wind, which I don't like, but it is nothing I haven't done a hundred times before. The biggest wrinkle is that President Obama is in town, and my home airport is in restricted airspace. I will have to be in contact with air traffic control from the moment I leave the ground. The procedure doesn't appear to be that hard, but is something I have never done by myself before.
By doing this, my total travel time will be 2.5 hours instead of 8 hours. I'm both nervous and excited.
