The kid we flipped from Pittsburgh is very underrated....from a small rural school in Indiana....he was worth flipping....in my mind he is a 4-star handsdown...good job by our staff on this one....no Bo won't pull the offer....he has never done that since he was at Nebraska...
Shoff tore his knee up and camped with us last summer and did not show well....nor did he in the season....had an Iowa offer and they pulled it....
Had nothing to do with us expecting a local kid to walk-on....he didn't earn a scholarship....and chose to go the 1AA route on a full ride.....as good as he was going get....

I can certainly understand why 9 players would flip from other schools to OSU this past year. They were likely waiting to see how OSU made out in the scandal and to find out who would be coach. I'm sure many kids would love to join that program to play for UM, since he's been known to have great success.
If there is so much talent out there, why pick up this 3-star so early? What if we find a better lineman? Will Bo just pull the offer?
That article named 3 local players, not just Shoff. BTW, what was the reason? Because we expected the local kid to walk on while we pay for the like-rated out of towner?
Notre Dame only had one Rudy but Nebraska gets a new crop of Rudys every season

Even though my view is not the same as some of the Greatest Fans of All.. I'm glad we maybe back in the hunt for Bailey. GBR

This recruiting has to take its toll on coaches and kids. The Illini coach thinks he has a QB for the future and something to build a class around and the kid changes his mind. The young man is obviously confused with everybody and their grandmother more than likely giving him their opinion on where to go and when to announce. It just seems like a stressful situation for a 17 or 18 year old to be dealing with.
The coach on the other hand may have his job hanging on the decision this young man makes. It just seems like a ton of stress all around.
"My job as a football coach is to educate and prepare the kids who come into this program for the rest of their life..." Bo Pelini at the Penn State post game press conference Nov. 12 2011

I am glad too...but from what I've been hearing lately Stanton is much better...but nothing says we can't land the two best QB's in the country.

No big deal but, FYI:

Talk is cheap, apparently.
So, too, are oral agreements like the one Nebraska made to Scranton, Pa., linebacker Shawn Bodtmann last April.
Bodtmann was the second commitment to Nebraska's 2009 recruiting class, making his pledge shortly after visiting NU for the annual Red-White scrimmage.
His senior season was marred by an injury, but Bodtmann persevered, returned to the field and then began focusing on his future as a Cornhusker.
Last week, Bodtmann's post-graduate plans took a hit. Nebraska pulled its scholarship offer to the straight-A student after more than nine months of Bodtmann planning, preparing and telling other schools that he would not be attending.

Had to do with medical issues....I was aware of that.....bottom line is there was a reason for the offer being withdrawn....it happens....

"Colleges have to do what they think is best," said Rivals.com recruiting analyst Jeremy Crabtree. "There's no way to feel good about the situation. I'm sure Nebraska didn't feel good determining the kid wouldn't fit into their system."
Days later, Nebraska picked up another commitment from Eric Martin, a highly-sought linebacker out of Moreno Valley, Calif. who chose NU over Arizona and Arizona State.
Seems as though it was a numbers thing -- Which your quote really doesn't point out. Terrible situation, no doubt, but I wanted to add that on.
Frankly, this is one I hadn't heard of.

Hopefully we can get both QB's... Bailey and Stanton. That would be way cool

That'd be beautiful. I personally can't see Stanton coming on if we've already got a commit from a QB, but can't rule it out.

Hearsay on my part, but Bodtmann supposedly didn't maintain contact with the coaches for quite a while, and did not follow the rehab and conditioning program they set up for him.

Correct....as I said it was a medical issue....

It was partly due to the condition and partly due to lack of disclosure from the kid regarding this and a couple other issues. You can't expect a program to hold a slot if openness is a one-way street.
It's a good thing to do business with honesty and integrity, but at the same time, if you're going to be successful, you can't be everyone's sucker. Those who know the situation know exactly what I'm talking about.
Nebraska fans, this is called someone in your conference having your back…welcome to the Big Ten. - HawkeyeNation

Yes that too....
Yup and in this case Bo and staff were the ones in the right not the youngman despite what was posted above from the school paper.....because its in print does not make it true as we both know....
And yes I know the situation....I was trying to be nice...

Well, I doubt very much that any of us know the full story or the side that the player and his family would present. I do know that we used to honor the offers of players injured in high school and many schools still do. Case in point:
http://collegefootballtalk.nbcsports...d-2012-signee/
Seems to me that we had another LB recruit (Chris Williams) recently that we honored his offer after a debilitating high school injury. He later requested his release. I don't know the details of either case, but I do know that the kid's family who's offer was pulled was quite upset as was his coach, who called us "unethical."

Really...this injured HS kid suckered everyone? LOL. He did go on to play in college for Maine...so it's not like he faked an injury to get a freebie scholarship.

With Givans, Dennis and Shawn Bodtman at LB, they should be very solid as are the safeties in Coston and McMillian

While it's true that no one has the full story....I do know that scholarships are offered and given based on how the kid has played in high school up to the point it is accepted. After they verbally commit, they are given certain things that they either need to work on, or maintain in order to keep that scholarship offer. For some kids it is academics, some kids it's weight room stuff, some kids it's footwork, some kids it's off the field troubles, etc. All I know is when you don't work on what they tell you to, and then the communication starts to be less and less, that is when the coaches will re-evaluate. If you can't do what is asked of you before you even sign the dotted line, ti's best to part ways before even getting on campus....for both parties.

Okay. Then who was the second one that Bo referenced?

After reading a couple of your posts it seems your pretty high on Stanton. Just a heads up, he, himself has stated that even though he will be camping at UNL this week, we have cooled on him and arent talking to him everyday like we were in the past. Take it if fwiw.
I would give my life for anyone one of them as i would my own family. -Pops
It doesn’t matter if the glass is half full or half empty. What matters is you have a glass that has something in it. Some people have no glass, or have a glass with nothing in it. So appreciate all that is in your life and quit questioning whether your glass in half full or half empty.
