Huskers Lose Strahm & Black, await decision from Stock, & Huber
Strahm is a huge blow to next year, this guy had the workings of a Friday night guy:
http://www.omaha.com/article/20120607/BIGRED/706079800
In Strahms case, I can't help but think this is B1G baseball at work: Here is a guy drafted in the 21st round, who is essentially saying he can't improve his draft stock in one or two years at Nebraska. In the past (Big 12 days), we could keep these 20 some rounders from signing.

Nothing in the article confirms that the Huskers will lose all four, so the thread title is a bit misleading.
But I agree with your assessment and will raise you a claim: if Erstad cannot consistently keep guys committed/in school that are drafted below the 12-15 rounds than Nebraska baseball will not be competitive again.

Stock has confirmed he is signing, and Huber confirmed he is leaning towards signing.

This problem is inevitable if you recruit talented players. Do we really want to just pursue kids that have no chance to be drafted?

True, but there is a line to this. I could see it if a kid is drafted in rounds 1-5 or 1-7, but when you have a kid who is drafted in the 21st signing, and essentially saying he can't improve his stock in 1 year at Nebraska, well, that sucks.
For a great example, juco Logan Ehlers went in the 20th round. Logan expressed how disappointed he was, and how he'd be pitching at Texas Tech next year. Why? To use that one year in the Big 12 to improve his draft stock.

Ehlers, an eighth-round pick of the Toronto Blue Jays in 2009, turned down an offer reportedly near $800,000 to take a scholarship at Nebraska. The Nebraska City native was suspended for NCAA rules violations in the spring of 2010 but became a regular in the pitching rotation that spring. He was 1-3 with a 4.30 earned run average. He transferred to Howard Community College in Texas. This spring he was 12-0 with an 0.00 ERA, until a conference title game when he took a loss after pitching on three days rest.
“I was still pretty pumped about the draft, but things didn’t work out the way I hoped and I guess I’ll be going to Texas Tech to go to school and play baseball there,” he said. Ehlers was offered a scholarship by the Red Raiders this spring. “ My goal is to play pro baseball and maybe one more year in college will help me get there.”
Unlike years past, the maximum a major league team can offer any draft pick taken after the 10th round is $100,000.

haha, so true. Coaches should think before they speak.

If a high school kid gets drafted in the top 20 rounds and doesn't go, they are a fool.

Why? They have little to gain being drafted outside of the first five or so rounds. And, in most cases, it's worth the gamble to stick around another season to see if they can improve their draft stock. Below is a list of the signing bonuses for round 10 in the 2010 MLB draft. And remember, their salaries are based on the level of their minor league deal. "A" ball is less than $2,000 per month (and it's not year-round). That's peanuts. You get past the 10th round and the bonuses aren't listed for nearly every player -- because it's not much more than chump change.

Apparently, given the choice to play in the BIG, or play in the pros....................duh! Besides the weather, you're battling the idea of playing in the lowly BIG!!
No recognition playing in the BIG, period! Texas, Okla, Okla St, Mizzou, etc., draw talent who want to improve and get noticed by the recruiters. Let's face it, BIG draws no one to speak of!!
Just an opinion, but I'm stickin' to it!

So if things change for the B1G, we all pat ourselves on the back for pointing the universities and coachs in the right direction?
And if they stay the same, we continue to bash everything?
Message boards rock! We should be getting paid for this!
Can't figure out how 149 looks like 200!!! I thought numbers didn't lie?

Fromunda/mods:
Maybe you could change the thread title to something a little more accurate, since only Strahm and Black have signed thus far.

Thanks for humoring me.
I think I just want to wear my rose-colored glasses as long as possible -- clinging to the belief that finishing your Husker collegiate career is better than daily bus trips as a 23rd-round draftee on a Single-A MLB affiliate. If Erstad can't hang on to these guys (that are already in the program) the rebuilding effort may be tantamount to the great pyramids.

You can change it yourself. Just double click next to the last letter, and you should be able to change it.
I really hate Penn State! (And I'm not that wild about Iowa either.)
