    A little too into recruiting

    http://www.cbssports.com/collegefoot...cruiting-trail

When Joe Mathis visited Nebraska, he had to change hotel rooms because fans caught wind where he was staying and kept knocking on his door telling him to join the Huskers.

"I thought out here (in California) was big with football but that stuff was big. People think you're a celebrity. I was in my hotel room and people were knocking on the door telling me to go to Nebraska. How do they know my room? We had to change rooms."

I'd be crossing off any school whose fans bug me in my hotel room.

Just texted my friend about this....with fans like that how we don't have massive NCAA violations is a miracle.

Enthusiastic is one thing, borderline Fatal Attraction is another.

My senior year in high school, I had friends that would forward me things they got on Facebook. Unreal how much these kids hear from fans. Can't imagine what some of these kids, those with 20, 30, 40+ offers, go through. I'd have no social media in their place.

Agreed, I see fans adding these recruits on Facebook and you know a message has been sent. Some kids love the attention though....

The odds of becoming a football immortal at NU are very high. I'd have to agree with the no social media, at least until you commit. I'd say just one fan base can be more than enough.

I just got a chuckle out of imagining a kid coming home from an official visit to Nebraska to find a rabbit boiling in a pot on the stove. Must have turned down a scholarship

    Bingo.

This kind of absolute over the top behavior by some fans really amazes me. As does fans who "like" HS players on Facebook. Bo needs our help when Wisconsin's got a 3rd and 11 in the 4th quarter. This recruiting thing I think he and the staff can handle on their own.

As to OmaHusker's point, a highly regarded Ohio State recruit did actually cross Ohio State off of his list because the kid got approached by a Ohio State fan who's a registered sex offender. It really creeped out the kid's Dad and made him extremely angry at Ohio State.

Every school has absolutely insane fans who take things too far. The Alabama fan who poisoned the trees at Auburn and is now banned from Alabama athletic events had to get escorted out of an Alabama softball game a few weeks ago. He won't take "Go away!" for an answer.

It's hard to imagine how pitiful one's life must be to stalk a kid in his hotel room.
