Zimmerman Updates
This week, the courts will hear motions to NOT release statements made by Zimmerman as well has his text messages, e-mails and journal.
Florida's public records law had no provision requiring "the disclosure of a confession" of a defendant. "The state asserts that this provision includes an admission of a defendant that could be used against him at trial," the filing said.

I'll edit it. The embedded version seem to only play in the edit screen.

On the underlying merits, it appears to me, based on the tea leaves, that Zimmerman must have made a pretty significant admission of some kind or another. My guess, since the fact that he killed Martin is not in dispute, that he said something incriminating about whether he was in fear for his life or not. Looks like we won't know what he said exactly until the trial though.

I think that is correct and IMHO, these statements should be suppressed for now. Until they courts rule on the admissibility there is no point in telling the world what he confessed to.

I wouldn't read too much into to it. It's a tactic by the prosecution put it out there that Zimmerman confessed and then have it sealed. The Orlando Sentinel is challenging the states filing with this:
"By the state's own argument, the Defendant's statements do not fall within the confession exemption," the motion says. "Indeed, based upon information already publicly disclosed, the Defendant claimed self-defense..."
Zimmerman willingly sat with police without an attorney for 3 hours. He also went to the scene with them, again without an attorney. There will be nothing there that he isn't willing to speak of again. I wouldn't expect a bombshell.

If it was just the prosecution, I would agree with you. These statements by the defense attorney make me think that there is something substantive there.
In a separate court filing on Thursday, Zimmerman's lawyer Mark O'Mara joined in the motion to keep his client's statements out of the public eye for the time being.
"There is the possibility that these statements may be subject to motions to suppress, if there is a potentially involuntary statement elicited from Mr. Zimmerman," O'Mara said.
"The release of that information would be highly prejudicial to Mr. Zimmerman's case, and again, would adversely affect the proper administration of justice," he said.

Again, we're all just speculating, but I still think there has to be something that he said that prosecutors will be able to use. The evidence released to date doesn't support a second degree murder charge, so it is my inference that he said something incriminating.

Note that his claim of self defense might be related to this: "Defendant (Zimmerman) has provided law enforcement with numerous statements, some of which are contradictory, and are inconsistent with the physical evidence and statements of witnesses," the prosecutors said in their court filing."
