Penn St vs NU Game Thread

The Huskers begin their trek through the loser's bracket with a game today against #3 seeded Penn St who lost yesterday to #6 Ohio St. 12-5.
Should the Huskers eliminate the Lions, they could potentially play a doubleheader tomorrow against the losers of both games today in the winners bracket. To have to now win six straight games to win the tournament is an enormous task. Oh well, one game at a time. Go Big Red.

Game starts at 12:05 pm EDT.

If we manage to win today, what do we do for pitching as we continue given we would have to win 4 games Friday and Saturday in order to stay alive.

Despite having a 5-1 lead, Penn State baseball (29-26) gave up 11-straight runs to drop its Big Ten Tournament opener to the Ohio State Buckeyes on Wednesday afternoon. With the loss, Penn State will play in an elimination game with the Nebraska Cornhuskers tomorrow at noon.

The Buckeye rally would begin in the sixth inning, putting up a two spot to shrink Penn State's lead to 5-3. One of the two runs Kurrasch gave up that inning was earned. The sophomore was lifted after six and the ball was given to sophomore Greg Welsh (Holland, Pa.).

After holding the Buckeyes scoreless in the seventh, Welsh struggled in the eighth and Ohio State rallied.Junior Dave Walkling (Nanaimo, Canada) came in with the bases loaded to attempt a two-inning save. The Buckeyes strung together three hits in the inning and a costly error would lead to three runs and a 6-5 Buckeye lead. The ninth inning would not fare any better for the Nittany Lions. The Buckeyes put together six runs to extend the lead to 12-5.

The game will be shown live on the Big Ten Network and streamed live on BTN2Go.com. Greg Sharpe and Lane Grindle will also have the call on the Husker Sports Network.

    Hi Guys

Well, as we all know, we need decent pitching, if not great, to continue. Our biggest problem, this year, of course, has been pitching. Looks like, we need to turn the pitching around 180 degrees, if we are to win the whole thing. I would hope, we, at least, can win today. It would be a shame to go winless our first year in the BIG.

    GO BIG RED!!!

Good to see you Bob. I'm at work again and will only be able to check in at the top of the hour. PSU blew a 5-1 lead yesterday after the 6th so their bullpen may have problems too.

With this format, I don't know any team that could play 6 games in 4 days and have arms to cover when they are playing teams that may have only played 3 games.

Let's just make sure that Penn St is the first team eliminated.

This game could easily become a high scoring affair as the starters begin to tire.

Definitely would need all the pitchers to bring their "A" game to do it.

Well, once more, the groundkeepers screw up! Mound is too wet, according to Hill.

    Shape up, guys!
