It is great to use the word ignorant, a lot of people assume/use it to mean more than "unknowning or lack of Knowledge"

I love to use it to describe my children to people, cause it catches them off guard, they think me mean, and then I get to highlight it means lack of knowledge or unknowing.... My 2 and 4 year olds are ignorant about a ton of stuff.

Saw this on ESPN and thought it was relevent to the points we were trying to make:

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Nebraska linebacker Will Compton reaches into his jeans pocket and pulls out his iPhone.

The lock screen displays the following: "Thank God, go to work, do extra, don't give yourself an excuse and become the absolute best." Compton's phone also contains what he describes as desire statements and reward statements.

Desire statement: "I want to be one of THE BEST linebackers in the country."

Reward statement: "Reap the benefits. All-Conference, All-American, getting drafted to the NFL."

Compton reviews the messages every day as part of a routine he adopted during the offseason.

And what kid of question is that. Of course I wouldn't want a kid to simply make a decision base off just the uniform. But face it, these kids want to look good while winning. If you go to a park you will see most of the youth in Jordans, Nike, Reebok, etc.... rather than some knock off they could have gotten for 20% of the price they paid for the shoes they have on. They don't want to wear regular old tube socks that come 6 in a pack for 9.99, they want to wear the NBA or Nike socks that are 12.99 per pair. My bball and football team I was coaching a couple years ago didn't even know what the purpose of the sleeve they were putting on their arms were. They just know that the "pros" do it so the ask their parents to get it for them. One of my track stars wanted to compete with an entire set of Under Armor gear under his track uniform because he watched an Adrian Peterson commercial. So, again, I'll say, fashion is important to these kids but no I don't want a kid picking the school simply because of the look of the uniform. And just an example, there was a guy by the name of LaMichael James who we were recruiting, chose Oregon and one of the things he mention that he loved about the school is that he has the opportunity to wear those "cool" uniforms. That attitude wasn't his sole purpose for picking them but it was a factor that he valued and he turned out to be an "okay" athlete for them.

But on to the Day-dreaming about some far off goal.......really, you don't think these kids think about the possibility of playing at the next level. You think honestly think that the great talent that this kids have they want to just let it all out in Lincoln and think nothing else beyond that? Please. Do kids have less of a value of their high school team if they are looking to play at the college level during their time there? It's about taking the next step. Yes, he wants to help win championships. Most of our athletes do I would think. But by your post you make it seem like if we were to gain a DT because of the "Suh Effect" then he wouldn't be team oriented. Like if a kid admires the fact that Prince was a complete DB heading to the league and that causes him to choose us over an LSU, tOSU, Bama, USC, etc....then he is only looking to better himself.....these are all factors play into what a program has to offer. You think Bo and staff turn down a kid if they ask, "what can you do to get me to the next level". I would think that the fact that Coach Raymond playing in the NFL was a tactic that was used in attempt to getting DBs to trust his judgement, why because now they think, he is going to prepare me to do what I need to do to excel and be at that level. And if they have that, it doesn't mean they aren't team oriented.

We fans would like to think that the top kids grew up bleeding the RED and they're every dream is to be in SCARLET & CREAM and they would do any and everything to enhance the program and they wish they could commit right out of middle school, but the truth is, we have to RECRUIT, which means we have to sale our program to these kids. If they say they want to help win championships and they choose our program, that means they have confidence that this staff will develop them and their teammates to be able to get that done. Championship teams usually send a lot of talent to the next level.

I would think that if you ask the team what they think about playing at the next level, even the ones whom want to "help win championship", they would be closer to that is a dream, or I'm not thinking about that RIGHT NOW, rather than who cares about that I just want to win champions here. And with those responses, I don't see how they could be looked at as less dedicated to the team goal as anyone.

Lol.....I do similar things with the word also. My grandfather used to always quote to me when I was growing up, "Ignorance is a choice". I understood the meaning once I found out what ignorant actually meant. Information for everything is out there. Because a person doesn't know something, is no excuse. The thing is, most don't want to seek the knowledge on many to most things they want, desire, need in life for whatever reason. Ignorance is the choice they take because it allows them to be comfortable and have a scapegoat from reality.

and I know this action or something similar to it is in the lives of many of the top athletes in the nation at all schools.

It sounds as if you are implying you are free from ignorance yourself. I certainly hope that's not the case, because that really is the highest form of ignorance. Insolence of that nature is very difficult to overcome.

Oh never has that been a claim. But the thing is, we are ignorant of our ignorance until someone/something/a situation, brings it to light, the choice to remain ignorant of it by not attempting to gain some knowledge of it, is......stupid.....
