No offer yet, but the Huskers are interested in former Lincoln East DE Devon Nash who is playing ball at Iowa Western CC (in Council Bluffs)....has an offer from Kansas State...JUCO recruits have not yet been rated....good shot at being a 4**** once that happens....would expect him to be 'N' if offered....

Spoke to my coaching friends that coach at 2 different Lincoln schools then the one that coaches at Central and they all basically said that they didn't recognize the name and they didn't game plan to avoid him like they did, for example, against Ricky Henry at Burke. So not a ton of noise out of high school.
That means basically nothing though as he could have been a late bloomer and that could have contributed to his success at IWCC. I would take the competition Western plays with a grain of salt, but he dominates that competition, which is what you want to see.

Thanks....
Sounds like from what I have read he stepped up this past season....as you pointed out and perhaps that is what the staff noticed too...

He didn't make a whole lot of noise coming out of high school. Just spoke with a class mate said that (long story short) discipline not talent was the reason for his choice to go JUCO. Says the kid was always a good athlete

What was his ranking coming out of high school? Were his grades so bad he didn't get any D-1 offers? Was he a late bloomer, and was a 6-3 210 DE at Lincoln East? Strange that none of our lincoln area Maxers have chimed in......

Looks like we are also after his teammate WR Deon Long....this kid is a freak....wow....and some BIG TIME giddy-up...
Was HIGH 3-star 5.8 recruit (bordreline 4) out of high school: http://rivals.yahoo.com/newmexico/fo...eon-Long-69913

His name does not ring a bell. Then again, Lincoln East football rarely rings a bell either.
-
Looks like from research on him (Deon Long) on the web that he is well traveled....Played at WVU in 2009....transfered to New Mexico and sat for a year and then played at New Mexico in 2011 and is slated to play at Iowa Western CC in 2012....
So it appears grades are not an issue....interesting....
Sat out the 2010 season due to transfer rules after coming to UNM from West Virginia University...has four years to play four
http://www.golobos.com/sports/m-foot...ng_deon00.html
Based on this I would think he is a 2-2 guy having played at New Mexico in 2010 and Iowa Western this year....
Had 47 catches for 809 yards and 4 TD with an avg catch of 1.2 yards in 2011 for a 1-11 New Mexico team....

Iowa Western CC is beginning to help NU more and more it appears.
-
More on Deon Long from 2011:
Long broke the school and Mountain West single-game record with 378 all-purpose yards in New Mexico’s overtime loss to Sam Houston State. Offensively, Long caught nine passes for 209 yards and three touchdowns, and returned a kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown.

Look like Long went to New Mexico as his HS coach became WR coach at New Mexico....
Also looks like there may have been some issues with former WVU Head Coach Stewert....thus the first transfer...

Lincoln East football hasn't mattered in so long even their own students don't go to the games much anymore.

Recruit

if Deon Long went to play at WVU, transferred to NMU, sat out a year, played a year at NMU, transferred to IWCC, and will play this year, won't he have only one more year to play? Math wasn't my major, though.

Maybe the coaches can talk him into not playing at IWCC this year.

If both Florida and Nebraska have offered, there must be something there that makes big-time programs interested.

Must be more to it than the obvious.
NEW MEXICO: Impact player with a playmaker's mentality...very athletic, with great speed and jumping ability...sat out the 2010 season due to transfer rules after coming to UNM from West Virginia University...has four years to play four...will immediately battle for a starting role this year...Long has been reunited with his high school coach - Craig Jefferies - who is in his first season as the Lobos' receivers coach.

TRANSFER YEAR (2010): Sat out the 2010 season at New Mexico due to transfer rules...spent most of the season working on the scout team and developing as a player
