Running Back prospects
Who are our main targets at RB right now? Would we be looking to take more than 1 with this class? With young guys in Green, Abdullah and now Cross I'm just curious on your guy's opinions for 2013.

Ryan Green from Florida. Elite running back.
-
Nope....has a final three of Florida, Florida State and Notre Dame....no chance at him....

Notre Dame only had one Rudy but Nebraska gets a new crop of Rudys every season

We will take only one RB in 2013 in my opinion....no real favorites at this point........although Terrel Newby is probably one to watch....

I would like to see a 5' 11" 220lb. Brandon Jackson type back, of course with a 4.4 40.

I hope we take two backs this class.

Not that I disagree with you but why? Imani Cross, Aaron Green, Ameer Abdullah, & Rex Burkhead with Rex being the only upperclassman. Maybe a RB & FB as our top two guys in that position are juniors Zimmerman and Marrow.

Next year you are looking at Green, Abdullah and Cross. Green is uber-talented but has yet to prove he IS the guy. Cross hasn't practiced yet and Abdullah has fumble issues and IMO is not an every down type of back. All it would take is for Cross to not pan out and Abdullah to blow a knee on kick return and we'd be in a world of hurt.
I think in a perfect world you should be striving for a goal of 5 running backs on roster. 2-3 that play with 2-3 redshirting/developing as young players. Gives you enough depth when bad things happen. And if you look at our history over the last 7-8 years...we've needed 2-3 backs each year due to guys getting minor dings and what not.
I think taking the second RB is much more important than taking the second QB. As it stands now...we have room for 24 guys (within the Big 10 signing limit rules of +3). There's room there for 2 RBs.

Definitely, I agree. Thanks for laying that out. I guess I was just looking at Marrow being an option there and I'm still trying to get comfortable with knowing Heard is a DB now. He was my person favorite of the triplets and I thought he was the most complete back of the three with the combination of speed, vision, and ball security, obviously based on the limit amount of playing time we go to see of the guys. There's also the walk on King Frazier, even though I haven't heard anything about him since spring camp. I don't know if he is still with us or what. But again I totally agree with your post here. I think back to the 95-96 season when a 5th string true freshman back by the name of Ahman Green had to come in due to injuries and other problems and ended up with a 1000+ season.

Now with the news of Green leaving, I would think there is a chance we could take 3 RB in the class?

Two....expect Heard to move back to I-back...

If you are going to make wishes, just wish for a 6'1" 235lb Jim Brown type of running back with 4.4 or better speed and the agility to be an All-American in lacrosse.

It makes 100% sense that Heard would move back to the running back position, but you speak as if you've got insider sources that it is 100% confirmed he is. If you do have insider sources and do not want to cite it, then that's fine. To me, you just seem so confident for it to be just your opinion. I am not questioning you or your knowledge of the situation, but rather curious of the reasoning on your confidence level.

or Gale Sayers type

As bad as we were on defense, I'd just as soon see Heard stay there and recruit another back in this class.

The last two 5 start backs we have recruited didn't exactly light the word on fire, so enough of the we need 5 start recruits talk. We need backs that will work hard and be team players. RB's are a dime a dozen if put in the right system. We will survive.
