If black uniforms get the players fired up, they'll get the fans fired up. And Lord knows that we could use some more fired up fans on game day. Half the time, our house sounds like a tomb because the blue hairs are too busy daydreaming about Dana X. Bible and the Ole Rattlesnake Boys of Nineteen-Dickety-Two.
Wrong. I am 37, stand and yell at games and hate the idea of black. I'm not even a traditionalist, I don't mind futuristic for one game, leave black out.

You never cease to amaze me fRed. It's sad that this is the behavior you model "as a true fan." I even agree with you about the black but your stance on what to do if we wear black is a bit ridiculous.

Maybe we should try some purple since K-State also wanted to be like us.
Why not the green and orange of Miami? Or the gold and maroon of FSU?
Or maybe those godawful colors VaTech uses. I can't even name them.
Here's a creative idea: include every color of every former loser team that used Nebraska as the gold standard of achievement.
Uh, maroon and orange.

Would love "scarlet and cream." I truly get the feeling that some will only be happy if the uniforms are significantly black. How boring.

I've argued this many times. Yes, we all agree the blackshirts are a tradition and very much more about wearing a black jersey in practice (at least pre-Pelini), but it has never been a tradition about what color of jersey was worn during a game, and IMO, it should stay that way. I honestly don't care how far from traditional this uniform looks, let's just stay true to scarlet and cream. Red and white are just so vibrant and contrasting to each other, to add any other colors is just unnecessary.
This is of course JMO, I know others have diffent opinions. But can we keep the name calling out of it? Seriously. There are people in both camps "blue hairs", "traditionalists", "young", "don't know your Husker history" that are going to fall on both sides.

I'm not really for or against black whether full jersey or accented, but I'm open to whatever they throw out there without deciding before hand they'll suck because of the possibility of black being included. I think most fans feel that way and there are only a few extremes on either side (more anti I would guess).
Like I said, I do think it would be a cool tribute to the defensive history, but I can see your point about keeping it in practice as well.
I was reminded of this the other day: Black was part of the Husker's dress in the 90's. If you look closely at the games in colder weather, you'll notice the players are wearing black tights under their pants. I think it was the late 90s when they switched to the red socks...

So they say ... though it's the most butt ugly bastardization of maroon and orange in the history of color.

Back in the 90's I think the blackshirts had a little circle decal on the helmet, I thought that was a nice way to signify it during a game.

No but my 10 year old daughter knows that Red has a variation of colors and most of them, to the naked eye don't look much different from the other.
True we are the Big Red. But we are far from the only school that claims that. As I pointed out earlier there are other institutes (Wisconsin) that claim the same thing and their institute is older than ours, so again how do we own something that was used before we were established. Cornell goes by Big Red, and have been since 1865. Big Red is the actual name for Kentucky's Mascot since the late 70's. Has Nebraska seen any royalties for that......I doubt it, why because we don't own Jack but our own logo and name.
Run off a few other schools if you would like, because obviously "studying history books" isn't your forte.

+1 Nice post Impaler......though I still think a little black accent wouldn't hurt
Anyone know when we get to see the real alternate uni's?
If I was a betting man, I would think it would be Nov 17 against Minnesota.
Reasons:
-A lot of speculation about Black being implemented in the jersey
-Minnesota was the first team to face the Nebraska when the defense was officially being consider the "Blackshirts"
-Though the uni has no effect on the outcome of the game, you don't want to introduce a new uni at a game that you could possibly loose because that would then have fans saying that the uniforms were a bad idea (similar to the all red uni against OU in '86)
