-Though the uni has no effect on the outcome of the game, you don't want to introduce a new uni at a game that you could possibly loose because that would then have fans saying that the uniforms were a bad idea (similar to the all red uni against OU in '86)
Or in other words, about the same time the actual blackshirts are handed out
But seriously, you provided good reasons. And we have more history with them than I realized:

According to that, we are tied with 20 wins apiece and one tie since 1912. Futuristic unis for FTW!

Correct. It's amazing what a fan can find out about their foes past and present when they decide to do other things that work while at......work.....

I wouldn't bet on a game like that, that no one in the country besides Nebraska and Minnesota fans want to watch...Adidas is doing it for publicity/money, and they are going to want as big of an audience as they can get....
Look at last years Nike Pro-Combat Uni roll-out games......Michigan State used against Michigan......LSU against Auburn.....Ohio State against Wisconsin....Boise St. and Georgia both used them in their match-up.....Stanford used em against Notre Dame....and Army and Nave both used them in their game
Adidas wont want to be outdone by Nike when it comes to New Unis, and Nebraska-Minnesota just doesn't have the same significance as those games....my money is on a Prime Time match-up against somebody like Ohio State, Michigan, or Wisconsin, Penn State, or the Iowa game the day after Thanksgiving
Edit: and Adidas fitted both Michigan and Notre Dame for their game under the lights last year....big time game

I would think once they are designed they should be shown to the public....why wait until the actual day of the game to show them?

It won't be Ohio State or Iowa as it's already been said that it will be for a home game. But I agree with the rest of the post, I think it will be for a primetime game. So that gives us Michigan or Wisconsin at this point in time.

Yeah, I agree, and that's how I read the question a few posts ago. I would imagine they will be previewed much as Michigan and ND were last year well before the game.

True we are the Big Red. But we are far from the only school that claims that. As I pointed out earlier there are other institutes (Wisconsin) that claim the same thing and their institute is older than ours, so again how do we own something that was used before we were established. Cornell goes by Big Red, and have been since 1865. Big Red is the actual name for Kentucky's Mascot since the late 70's. Has Nebraska seen any royalties for that......I doubt it, why because we don't own Jack but our own logo and name.
Run off a few other schools if you would like, because obviously "studying history books" isn't your forte.
Are you actually a Nebraska fan? (Of course you are, but your abdication of red is kind of shocking)
Our claim to the name Big Red is unquestionable.
I guess that's the difference between us -- I see us as the one and only owners of "Big Red" and the premiere team to wear that color (as USC owns maroon and gold), and you see as just another team that wears red. Oh well ...

Good catch....forgot about that

Yea, I thought about that first. Especially the fact that Michigan and Nebraska both are under Adidas. But all the addition of black talk made me think about why someone like TO would agree to go "outside the box" when it comes to Nebraska's unis and understanding that the anniversary of the blackshirts are coming up along with the team the blackshirts "opened the curtain" on coming to Lincoln, I figured that would be logical, but I see it your way also. But that's the fun part of the gamble.

And now my loyalty as a fan is in question? Why because I stated the facts. As a fan of course you would say "I see us as the one and only owners of 'Big Red' " but do you not think that a Wisconsin fan somewhere would quote that same phrase? Each fan would have an argument as far as to why they feel their institution is the Real Big Red but it comes down to it's the opinions of both parties (fans). To own something means legally you have the sole control of that object. Nothing about that object can be used without the permission of you or consequences are enforced whether that be financially or what have you. As a fan of NU, every game you will hear me scream Go Big Red as loud as any fan in the stadium/bar/parking lot/living room/etc....who is supporting the Huskers. But its just plan idiotic to think that a Wisconsin fan isn't doing the same thing for his team or Cornell or Western Kentucky or any other school that associates it's team/mascot with "Big Red". And the thing is, we have no grounds to tell them that they can't do it, why?.............because we don't own that. It's nothing more than a chant that the fans have used for years for their team. No fan has ever went out and copywrighted "GO BIG RED" therefore no ownership is awarded to anyone. I'm not sure why you don't understand that.
You said go study a history books, maybe you should read other history books besides just Nebraska's football team. Then you will understand that Big Red is a chant in other stadiums outside of Lincoln......How's bout you go on Wisconsin's board and quote that we own Big Red, let me know how many apologies you receive from those fans for using it without the permission of you (a fan)

A lot of condescending attitude directed at others over something as trivial as an alternate uniform for one game.

Agreed. I think it will be the Michigan game. I also anticipate the alternate uni to be very much in the same vein as the ND and UM unis - more retro than futuristic.

You can make an argument for the Wisconsin game. After all, last year Tom Osborne himself asked us all to wear black to Madison.

Possibly, but only if the alternate uni is something VERY conservative/traditional. If they decide to go big (eg, black helmets) it won't be at home against the other team in the conference with the exact same color scheme. I think that would be viewed as ceding the home uni to the opposition.

I think the retro futuristic look would be the way to go. I can't see Dr. Tom going with anything too far out there like leopard print or mesh underwear.
I vote that they send the helmets out to a custom car painter and have them fauxed to look like leather helmets.

this makes a lot of sense.......
I still think it will be the Minnesota game. Yea, it's not prime time but if black is continued to be thrown around, I would think it would be because of the blackshirt tradition, and that tradition began against the Gophers 50 years ago. TO is a guy whom seems like he cares more about the tradition of the program than fame and glitz for having a new uniform. Plus if we are to do so and they post pics of the uniform before the game, I would think that many would tune in to see Nebraska play in a alternate uni. It would be a shocker like seeing ND, Mich, & tOSU sport theirs.

I bet its the wisconsin game

When I see things like Rutgers new abominations, the more I think staying traditional is the trendy thing to do. If I was half interested in an alternate uni, this pretty much squashes it. Makes me appreciate the Huskers and Penn States even more.

I humbly submit Ohio State's Pro Combat Uniforms.
Classy, traditional and yet "modern" or "new." You can honor tradition with a futuristic uniform. Heck, we've been doing it for years unless you forgot that there used to be an "N" on the sleeve and UCLA style shoulder stripes back in the Johnny Rodgers days. The helmet also used to say "NU."
You can make updates and "progress" without losing the "soul" of the team's look.
