Fellow contributors,
First, in apology for misuse of the pronoun.
We know that there are several attornies on this site, as well as a number of others who seem intelligent and to exercise good judgment. Your opinions and suggestions are welcome.
We know an individual who is a teacher who has no spouse and no dependents. This person opted out of the union but is still required to pay approximately 70% of dues for representation in negotiations.
Teachers in his school district recently had a vote on benefit costs. Under the current system he pays $0, as does anybody else with no dependents. The proposed plan (which passed) will now require him to pay $200 a month. This $200 DOES NOT go toward his benefit costs. Rather, it will be used to subsidize the costs of those members who have dependents.
TEACHERS VOTED TO TAKE MONEY OUT OF THE POCKETS OF OTHER TEACHERS.
Do you think this is legal? Does anyone have a suggestion?
Thank you.
