At some point, did someone whine about white?

Lots of disagreement about what is "cool."

probably.... unfortunately their primary colors aren't conducive to being an away team, so their hands were undoubtedly tied.
The white jerseys are probably my least favorite of the linked images above, although the use of a primary school color highlight (in this case black) is what makes them appealing.

in terms of NU, I'm not opposed to black, simply saying it's a simplistic solution.
I'd like to see some real design solutions focusing on hues, finishes, patterns & combinations of red, scarlet, white, cream, etc..
aside from simply black, it could be interesting to see shades of Red contrast explored ...

You are definitely right about "cool" being subjective. I hate Misery just as much as the next guy, but I am really digging that helmet. I also love that new one Boise was wearing this year with the oversized Bronco logo. But I know a lot of people that loathe stuff like that.
Kind of reminds me of the old AFL--Arena Football League

I totallly agree that NU gets the final say. Obviously, I'm not privy to these negotiations either (which is why I wrote I can almost guarantee there will be an alternate uni stipulation). Oregon changed the perception of what a college football uniform can be, and there is no going back now. For the Ducks, anything goes. For NU, I think any alternates will have enough retro design elements (eg, derby numbers, block N) to honor the past and keep the traditionalists from having a collective hissy fit.

I posted awhile back that Sirles and Bell like the idea and they even noted the fact that the older fans wouldn't like it. That being said, let it go. I think for one game you should allow the kids to wear something that they deem fun. We don't have to be Oregon, but to have one alternate at least gives you the ability to say "Yea, we do it too."
This argument is old, the tradition was never in the uniform but in the coaches and players that helped make this program great. Fans have the support down but this is something you all need to just let go. Nobody knows what design we will have, nobody said anything about MAJOR color changes outside of adding black. Oregon is good today because they recruit with A UNIFORM....that's it, there is no tradition there; their football was built on Nike's ability to change their uni every year and then add a couple of alternates along with them. Guess what.....its working. We can stand by and watch oooor take advantage of what is going on. The players enjoy it, recruits eat it up, and honestly what are you going to do? Stop watching? over a uniform change.....once a year?

Good lord, if a freakin uniform makes a kid that happy would it not be ok to let them have it once a year....if even that much?

Not bad looking unis, at least they are not God awful like some of the stuff teams like Oregon ans Maryland wear.

Recruiting is and always will be about coaches. Oregon is a unique situation, not a rule. Alabama, Oklahoma, Texas, USC, and Ohio State recruit just fine without doing alternate uni's. If Oregon gets a crappy coach in after the Chipster leaves I don't know how much "uniforms" will help. I am not saying they can have NO effect, just that in the end with most kids I don't think it comes into play. Let's watch maryland and see how it plays out for them.
Please don't take that as I'm against an alternate uni, I'm not. I'm just against black, I think NU can do something radical and cool with scarlet and cream. I for one would love to see head to toe scarlet uni's with cream numbers and accents. In fact, I would prefer a truer scarlet and a true cream in place on our regular uni's. The red we have now sometimes looks like tomatoe juice.

Ohio State has had numerous alternate unis in recent years... fyi.
Yes, you're right though, I don't think uniforms play that HUGE of a part in recruiting as it does at Oregon. Nor do I think that having one game in fairly conservative alternate unis will suddenly make DONU a "uniform" school. It's just the duds they wear for one game. The kids have some fun, the fans get a slight change in scenery, and hopefully we win the game. To me, that's all there is to it.

Yeah, and so has OU. Both roll out pretty conservative designs though and certainly don't register much on the alternate uni radar like a Oregon or Boise State.
