Thumbs up Spring Game Weather Forecast

Apologies for my tardiness.... been busy at work as I'm off the remainder of the week attending a conference in Houston.

So, this will be short and simple -- and I may not get an update done later in the week.

There is a concern for rain on Saturday... BUT, right now the computer models suggest the best chance is in the morning -- and even then it may remain east of Lincoln. Iowa has a bigger threat of rain on Saturday than does Nebraska. So, I'll mention the slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm (and more so pregame), but won't be shocked if it misses Lincoln. Just check your local weather later in the week to confirm that in case the location and timing as suggested by the models changes slightly. It's a bit too close for comfort to dismiss it completely at this point.

It will be warm. Won't drop much below 50° Friday night and should be in the 70s for the bulk of the game itself. Likely be at least some clouds around -- but might get some sunshine mixed in. Winds are difficult to forecast beyond 2-3 days, but 15-20mph is reasonable at this point.

So what's the latest? I've seen the blanket picture of the "high risk tornado ripe" area, but just wondering if any meteorologists out there could give me an idea how things look for a drive up and back on I-29 from Kansas City during tornadogeddon.

Indeed... NOAA has placed eastern NE in a "high risk" for severe weather area tomorrow... likely to be a tornado watch in Lincoln tomorrow (FUN!).

Best chance of storms will be in the morning -- and again in the evening (more isolated and mainly north during the game -- so, there is a chance of a relatively "quiet" period during the game itself). The evening storms will be the real concern for tornadic activity.

Otherwise, it does look a bit windier than previously forecast tomorrow afternoon.

I agree with HWM. It looks like the timing of the game will be in between the morning thunderstorms and the evening main event. Definitely be be aware of things on the drive back to the KC area, especially if it will be after dark around 10 pm or so. Stuff that formed along the I-135/highway 81 corridor will be rapidly moving northeast moving toward and impacting eastern KS and western MO around this time.

Hope everybody has a good time at the game or watching the game. I'll be working and I already am having butterflies about tomorrow. Hope all goes well tomorrow for everyone out there.

Looks like some storms could be bearing down on Lincoln in the next hour or so (moving up from the southwest)... might make for a rough pregame.

Keep your eyes and ears peeled.

Tornado watch in effect. Particularly dangerous situation unfolding across north central KS and southern NE. Supercells forming in north central KS moving northeast towards SE NE. Definitely need to watch this activity for late in the game.

Yep. Looks like this first round is going to move out right around kickoff.... and then a break for awhile... be interesting to see when the big stuff arrives late in the day.

The storm in north central KS is looking good on radar. Tor warned with a nice looking hook developing. Moving northeast at about 45 mph or so.

My nerves are killing me. This is the first outbreak I have gone into feeling like this. The parameters are lining up and the population at risk is quite large.

Well, it looks like temps in Omaha are running 5-8 degrees lower than predicted. I would guess the strong stuff stays in SE Nebraska and south. Of course, I based this on zero years of any meterological education.

I read stuff like this from Metrological blogs

According to a 17Z sounding from Norman, Oklahoma, Storm Relatively Helicity is over 600 with a rapidly destabilizing atmosphere all the way north into Nebraska.

    600 is freaking insane.

    And

    OMG.

    The GFS and Canadian...

    Next 30 hours...

They take the low below 986mb, and the 500mb vorticity is literally off the color scale through the entire night tonight and well into tomorrow early afternoon.
This is going to be a very very interesting afternoon

There wasn't much "window of opportunity" to play today... kinda thought there might be 2-3 hours to play with -- but it was probably not more than an hour or so -- just not enough time to play (and with the impending threat -- and people needing to be safe and get home safely). Makes complete sense they scrapped it. Next round of storms -- bigger this time -- is just about to roll into Lincoln from the southwest. Wish I was there.
