Another look at Climate Change
This one's written by a Republican small business man:

I know it's from Huffingtonpost but some of you still reference fox and wsj.
I was shocked earlier this month when a town in Minnesota, International Falls, had a low temperature for the day that was above the record high for the date.
Meanwhile, we twiddle our thumbs...

You cannot take an anectodal event and make anything of it. That isn't science.
Is global warming for real? Well, maybe. Certainly there is a warming trend. Is that CO2 based? There is some evidence to suggest that. Is that the reason for "X" meteorlogical event? Who the heck knows?

You might want to read the article. Over 7,000 record highs is not an anectodal event.

I now keep this bookmarked for just such an occasion:
Is global warming real? most likely.. is man made global warming real? Sure, if you wear a tin foil hat, believe there were two shooters and we have a fleet of UFO's buried in Nevada.

The earth has been warming gradually for a couple hundred years now and more than likely it will start cooling and then it will start warming and then it will start cooling and then it will start warming...in know it is alarming but it has been doing this for a very very long time...sometimes it gets way way hot and sometime it gets way way cool.

It's an odd weather pattern. It happens sometimes.
weather.gov is showing highs back down in the 60s next week. Pretty close to normal temps for April.
Just as a bitterly cold winter doesn't prove anything, and unusually warm March is not definitive proof of climate change. And it certainly is not proof of anthropogenic change.
And for the record, HuffPo is ok by me. It's when you start wandering into Mother Jones territory that you will run into problems.

Still seems you guys aren't reading the article. Which I think you might want to do since your opinions are mentioned.

Ahhh, the arrogance of man...thinking he can actually affect things that have been happening on this planet for millions and millions of years.

Not sure why you assume I didn't read the article. Again, it is an odd weather pattern. A warm month (or couple of months) doesn't prove or disprove anthropogenic climate change any more than a record cold winter. The fact that this guy is a Republican really has no bearing on this.
I know that this guy has bought in to the notion that the climate is warming. Just two years ago (winter of 2009-10), we were facing record cold winters here in the US. Last winter (2010-11), Europe faced one of its coldest winters on record.
Douglas makes it quite clear that he wants to make money off of global warming, and is already invested in multiple endeavours designed to profit off of the idea. Of course he's going to tell you things are bad and getting worse - global warming/climate change hysteria is good for his businesses. I don't fault him for that, but I also can't consider him an unbiased observer.

This. I'm an agnostic on man-made global warming because I don't know enough to discern between the claims of competing scientists all of whom are much smart than me, but I do enough to know that when you are talking global trends taking place over a period of hundreds of years, a warm spring matters not a bit. That goes straight to one of the errors of human reasoning in the article that Showman posted awhile back to see trends based on an extremely limited dataset.

I did read the article. He is quoting the warm start to March and the several thousand record highs recorded. That is an anecdote. Last April and May were cold. Anecdotal.
What isn't anecdotal is the warming trend which is well documented.
I also am a person that trusts science and am concerned about the possibility of man made changes to our environment. But, I just think the logic used by this author is a fallacy. He also has an admitted conflict of interest. I also think that many rigid Republicans and Democrats don't have the slightest clue about global warming but just stick to their partisan guns because that what they do. Honest debate is long gone in our political process. "Principles" or whatever you want to call it take precedent over solid reason and fact. Said principles are also clung too fiercely even in the face of contrary evidence.
Overall, I think it would be a sound policy for the United States to continue to research and develop greener energy sources. Not only for potential environmental benefits, but also to decrease our dependency on the Middle East. On the other hand, I also think that any rational and realistic person can see that there is no way that the available green technology is adequate for our energy needs and any environmental regulations need to pay consideration to the economic collateral damage that may ensue.
