USM looking at Nebraska game at Superdome in 2013
Go figure...we could fill that stadium... and a big pay day to boot...
Southern Miss is looking at a potential 2013 football game against Nebraska at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, USM interim athletic director Jeff Hammond said today during a town hall meeting at Mugshots in Hattiesburg.

2013 S. Mississippi Game to New Orleans
Sounds like the 2013 S. Miss. game could be played in the Superdome in New Orleans. If it happens the Huskers have more fans than the Golden Eagles, it helps recruiting, and I end up in New Orleans.Three great reasons to move the game.

This is a sports venue I'd like to see...I didn't go to Dallas either time Nebraska played and while they didn't win either game it would be a fun place to see...so I regret not going to either of those games....

Recruit
That pretty much sums up the benefits...one that I would like to add is that we score so much that our second and third string get the opportunity to prove they are as good as, or possibly better, than the starters. What a comfort that would be for all of us to see. Here's to hoping!!!!

The boost to recruiting would be huge, Pelini was at LSU, our new coach T. Joseph is from New Orleans, and wasnt Papuchis at LSU with Pelini also. So having 3 guys down there who had previously been there, can only help the connections they have there. Get some of those high school coaches some sideline passes for the game.... get our prospective recruits out to the practice the day before and be in our locker room before and after the game.... awesome exposure for the team. I wonder if there are any rules about getting to the visiting town 2 days early (for a couple coaches anyway), not the team, we dont want the team to wander from its travel routine, but some asst coaches could really help out the recruit business in a town that has tons of talent.

Its in our best intrest to accomodate So Miss on this, since we'll get to take double the fans to a fun town, and improve recruiting at the same time. Couldnt care about extra money, thats kind of not important here, its better to get the other benefits and build a good relationship with an school that we could well schedule again, and do the same thing, if that helps them to play us more often. Im sure we get 2 home games to their 1, but this kind of deal helps us both, and teams arent so easy to schedule anymore, so we need all the "friends" out there we can get, and this is terrific exposure for us.

A great idea. I wonder if we'll hear from Southern Miss Alum again?

Yes, probably so. I missed out on the great food they had when we were in Hattiesburg that time as I never found their tailgating spot.

It was a great time, mj. Maybe we'll have to make another road trip to the Big Easy, eh?

I might have to pony up for that trip. With a promise to take the little woman on a stroll through the Garden District and a lunch at Commander's Palace, she might actually attend her first Husker game.

Me, I'm N. Lived ther for 4 years plus many, many trips since then. Just one more hurricane at Pat O'Briens would not hurt my feeling at all.
