It doesn’t matter if the glass is half full or half empty. What matters is you have a glass that has something in it. Some people have no glass, or have a glass with nothing in it. So appreciate all that is in your life and quit questioning whether your glass in half full or half empty.

I see Peat dropped from 14 to 32, the last of the rivals 5stars. Thats probably more political than his baby fat weight gain...
I brought this up a month ago, but I am still puzzled when I see that Nebraska is looking at a lot of "plan B" players in case some of our late targets go elsewhere, but we never took a look at top 100 (4-star) lineman Joey O'Conner from northern colorado! He's ranked as the top 15 O-lineman in the whole country, has listed Nebraska as his early favorite, but never got an offer. Was one of Penn States early defectors after the scandal broke, and had a whos who of offers from the likes of Michigan, Notre Dame, UCLA, Wisconsin, Iowa, South Carolina, Auburn, Tennessee, etc.....last week Ohio State invites him for a visit and BAM he commits to the Buckeyes!
Geographically we were the closest BIG campus to him, he had offers from our other conference foes Penn St, Ohio St, Iowa, Wisconsin, Mich St and we pass on him? When you see how injury prone O lineman are, and how most Div 1 schools like to have at least 20 to 25 lineman on scolly...and heck, he could end up playing D-line for all we know! Now if Peats doesnt come through, Yikes!
I trust our coaches, and there must be something about this kid we don't know, but after seeing us send Ron Brown all the way to Hawaii for a 2 star TE??? Hmmmmmm?

We are not looking for "plan B" players on the O-line. The cupboard is not bare at this position.
We need defensive players droves this year and a "select" handful of offensive players at TE, QB and OL. It is all about the numbers man.

I will agree that we are not looking for "plan B" players. I would offer that a someone who is a top 15 o-lineman in the country should have been on our A list is the point that I think O'Husker was getting at. And I agree this is a MISS

Thanks hrbhskr, I believe O'Conner should have been on our A list from the beginning, but since we originally thought we may only be giving out 15 or 16 schollies this year, I thot thats why we did'nt offer him. But over the last month or so, it now looks like we could hand out up to 20 schollies, and some "not on the radar B listers" that RR and others never heard of, have either been offered or have even committed. When we start flying to hawaii for a 2 star TE I am thinking: Huh? What changed... A month ago we were being very selective, looking at a lot of very promising recruits, because we had so few schollies to offer.
If we end up only signing 16 or 17 kids on feb 1st, and offer some grey shirts and prefered walkon kids full schollarships on Jan 31st, I am going to cry FOUL! Because they could have had O'Conner for the taking. And the fact that he goes to a conference rival, and was offered by 4 or 5 of our conf rivals, that stings!

Are you sure we never looked at him? And, where do you see that Nebraska was an early favorite. I don't see that on any of the recruiting sites. In fact, Scout doesn't even list Nebraska as a School of Interest. I'm not saying your information is incorrect, I just don't see it anywhere.

It appears we are looking at a Plan B in case the Plan A++ does not pan out.

Just in case Nebraska isn’t able to land five-star offensive tackle prospect Andrus Peat for its 2012 recruiting class, there appears to be a Plan B – Murietta (Calif.) lineman Corey Whitaker. He’ll visit this weekend......The 6-foot-5, 270-pound Whitaker is a two-star, 74 rating prospect.....

The sky is not falling and your information is incorrect....
As for the 2 star DE you need to do some homework before you state what you did....this kid is from Hawaii and the recruiting sites knew little or nothing about him and never bother to do much as far as film study etc. on him....which is par for the course on Island kids....this kid has some serious upside and could be one of the sleepers of this class mainly because he is unknown.......but you diss him because he is just some 2-star.....we actually offered him last summer...not just this past week....a real good get in my opinion if we can get him to commit.....
Go ahead call FOUL....but make sure you know what you are talking about.....
O'Conner....once again do your homework....which JAG did for you above...because what you stated is incorrect...oh and you believe he should ahve been on our 'A' list based on what? Honest question.....

Nebraska never offered him. Last fall when he was ranked as a 4star prospect, He listed Nebraska as one of his favorites. He was very open on his recruiting. I live 5 miles from his hometown and know alot of people that know the kid and the family. He was waiting for a NU offer, especially after Thurston committed. A one - two colorado punch to go with Peat if he comes! NU never offered because "they had so few schollies to give this year and 2 was the max for Olinemen.
So he committed to Penn State a while ago, which took him off everyones radar...then SANDUSKY happened! He was the first commit to back out after the scandal. ESPN ran it on their ticker for a whole week "Top 100 recruit O'Conner is the first decommit from Penn State in the wake of Sandusky scandal" Thats when I went on the recruiting sites and talking to Windsor people. "Why won't Nebraska offer? He has offers from 6 B1G schools, and Lincoln is closest to his family!... They offered Thurston from denver, and he's not ranked as high?" He wanted to go B1G conference, but never got an offer or invited to even visit.
When he opened his recruiting back up two months ago, He again listed Nebraska as one of his favs, but no offer, contact, or visit invite. When Urb was hired by Ohio State, he called the family immediately and invited him to visit last week. Thats when he committed. Meyer allready had the top 4 rated recruiting class in the country before offering O'Conner, (and aren't they on limited schollies?) so it wasnt like he was desperate to fill up his class!
I was fine with us not offering O'Conner back in november because NU was "so limited in the schollies they could give this year", then we get a commit out of the blue from a california LB that wasnt even on any guru's radar a week before?? Then rumors that 3 or more players will leave the team and we may offer 20 schollies??? And all these new names are popping up??? I just don't get it, but I am sure there is alot more to all of this that what I am hearing. For all I know maybe NU did talk to him and before offering he committed to PSU so they scratched him off the list.
Of course I am in colorado and would love to get half of the states D-1 3,4, and 5 star players to come to lincoln (or CSU) instead of the Puffs!

Hey, Red Reign, thanks for the additional info.
As an aside, you are one of the main reasons that I finally decided to join HM and start posting. I have been reading your recruiting info for the past couple of years, and I really appreciate the information and perspective that you provide. Plus, you do it with an overall positive attitude and good humor.
I am sure I am not the only person who comes here often because of your posts. You should ask for a cut of the site revenues!

Sorry RR, Wasn't dissing the hawaiian TE (I actually grew up in hawaii from age 10 to 15, and went one year of high school there before moving to nebraska. I know first hand how good the football is there, especially at Kameahameaha, Punuho, and others. Besides colorado, I would love for the huskers to get more hawaiians. Regrettfully, the distance, weather, and religion usually hamper our efforts) I did not know he was offered long ago. (my bad) The OWH recruiting article sounded like "his name came out of the blue" and if I heard his name before last week I would have remembered!
It just seams the climate for recruits has changes from very limited and guarded offers to where we are going hogwild because we may have 20 schollies available. If this is the case, and hindsight is 20/20, I was just hoping we could get this kid. When I brought it up a month or so ago, some responses were kind of negative on O'Conner, saying "well obviously the coaches didn't like what they saw in this kid and moved on". OK, like I said, then lets move on and sign a stellar class (including LOOOOO!) When I saw that Meyer padded his allready great class with this kid, that irked me.
I will move on. To answer your serious question: YES, I thought he should be on our A list (if we can give 20 schollies especially) He was a 5.9 4*** top 87 OVERALL player in the country. He lives less than 400 miles from lincoln. Nebraska usually recruits colorado very hard! I don't get it it? Why wouldn't he be on almost every teams A list???
All of my thoughts on this are opinion, not facts (except his national rankings) that I can prove, so I will defer to you. It sounds like you don't consider O'conner a "miss" at all, even with his geographical proximity to lincoln, and signing late with a top conference rival? OK, then lets get PEAT and move forward!!!!
