    More Doc Speak

    http://sports.omaha.com/2011/12/29/d...ineup-changes/

    A few excerpts

Nebraska coach Doc Sadler said Thursday he’s considering “a little bit’’ of change in his starting lineup for Saturday’s 2 p.m. home men’s basketball game against No. 16 Michigan State.“I don’t know for sure how,’’ he said. “But we’ve got to have some of these new guys out there with four guys who have been out there before.

“Athletically, we can’t play with those guys (with our guys) playing 35 minutes,’’ Sadler said. “They are probably better athletes to begin with.’’

First a positive....the guy isn't making excuses and probably could with three big injuries. It seems Doc realizes he doesn't have the horses to play in the Big Ten competitively, and although he does not state it, he has to realize that is because of his recruiting shortfalls.

I'd respect him if he quit.

Here's where fRed is right on Sadler. He seems like an honorable guy, so I can see him coming to a mutual decision with the AD TO to part the sheets. NOw if he'd just give back a good chunk of his salary and rip up that extension from last year.

Eff...seriously, this guy got an extension last year???????????????????????????????

He is right in respect to his substitution patterns. When he brought the reserves into the Wisconsin game early in the first half, the team absolutely cratered. If the injured players are not able to come back soon, he has no choice but to bring some guys in that ordinarily would not be seeing so much time. In particular, the three Freshmen who were not redshirted. He has no choice to force-feed them a bit. He will need to be creative and instead of bringing them all in at the same time, rotate them in with the other starters.

Not a particularly easy task for any coach.

Meanwhile, he continues to get absolutely nothing from Niemann on either end of the court. We need Diaz back ASAP as Ubel is a stop-gap replacement at best. The injury to Almeida looms large right now.

That part is absurd! No way in the shades of hades, this should even be happening.

Just about everything in a college coach's contract is negotiated. Is it maybe possible that Pelini requested and received a low buyout?
I really hate Penn State! (And I'm not that wild about Iowa either.)

It's possible, yes. But at Nebraska? Basketball is more valuable than Football? I think not.

Football is absolutely more valuable. But when the contract was written, I suspect that it's possible that Bo was willing to give up something to secure a low buyout. I'm just saying that I don't think the low buyout cost was an accident, a coincidence, a mistake, or an oversight.

What do you think he gave up to secure the low buyout?

Actually, he may not have given up anything. Buyouts are a key part of contracts, and the buyout cost was most likely something Bo requested. I really don't think it was Coach Osborne's idea.

If I were the AD in this position, trying to secure a coach for a few years, why would I allow for a low buy-out fee? I wouldn't. Just don't understand the logistics of how this could happen.
