Dark times for the city of Detroit

Could Ayn Rand be right, what happens when the thinkers and the doers move out of an area, is labor alone responsible for prosperity?

East St. Louis is a separate city located in Illinois.

East St. Louis unemployment ~ 17%

Detroit has a whole lot more people, you can figure it out.

Unbelievable. Just out of curiousity I went to www.realtor.com and searched for homes for sale for under $10,000 in Detroit. There are over 1,400 homes for sale for between the price of $1 and $10,000.

For comparisons sake, I searched Denver, Commerce City, and Aurora Colorado (Aurora and Commerce City being two of the more low-income parts of the metro area) by the same criteria and found 0 properties. That search in St. Louis yielded 133 homes.

This is what happens when you turn your city over to the OWS crowd.

In a sense the movers and thinkers of the country will move to the "suburbs" if they're forced to finance the benefits the OWSers have deemed each other.

This is only the latest in a long line of "dark times for Detroit" news reports. About a year ago I read an article about it in our paper here. As of then, the AVERAGE sales price of a residential property in the last two quarters was about $6,000. At that point, within the city limits of Detroit, there were ZERO Starbucks, ZERO chain grocery stores. The article talked about urban planners contemplating radical "solutions" for Detroit, including the potential of totally razing entire sections of the inner city and turning them back into agricultural, semi-rural usage.

East St. Louis was even featured in the original "Vacation"...

On a thread note, I'm not sure what there is to be discussed. All discussion should have ended at post #4.

Not really because Detroit can't afford to pay them.

That was a year ago, it has gotten much worse since then. The last best hope that they have is to concentrate remaining residents in areas where there are some city services so they can consolidate those services and be a little more effective with what little they have.

I worked inner city Detroit in 98,99 and it was a crap then. They have never had good politics and the people are in that mindset of what have you done for me lately.

Men of Israel, consider carefully what you intend to do to these men. Some time ago Theudas appeared, claiming to be somebody, and about four hundred men rallied to him. He was killed, all his followers were dispersed, and it all came to nothing. After him, Judas the Galilean appeared in the days of the census and led a band of people in revolt. He too was killed, and all his followers were scattered. Therefore, in the present case I advise you: Leave these men alone! Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail. But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God.” - Gamalie the Pharisee - Addressing the Sanhedrin regarding the new group called Christians

Whats amazing is that yesterday up at York 160 acres of farm ground sold on auction for $1.66 MILLION.. or $10,400.00 PER acre!
