Converted to quarterback last year as a Jr......impressive looking on film....
As I said, converted to quarterback last season after having played LB and WR as a Sophmore....Malcom Brown the 5-star RB, who committed to Texas, was the RB on the Steele team last year....
Tommy Armstrong finished his junior season with around 1,600 yards passing with 24 touchdowns and two interceptions. He also had around 600 yards on the ground with eight rushing touchdowns. He says he can bench 265-pounds and squat 415.
Armstrong reports a 3.6 core GPA and is taking the SAT in May.
Tommy is a good athlete at the QB position that can hurt you with his legs as well as his arm. Defenses will always have to account for him making plays with his legs, which is not as easy as one may think. He presents a lot of problems to the opposition because he is so dangerous as a runner. If he is put in a spread offense system at the next level, he could put up some huge numbers.
Quarterback Tommy Armstrong will try and continue to develop as a dual-threat quarterback prospect. This Class of 2012 recruit has a chance to become one of the Lone Star State's top signal callers next season.
Coach Beck is recruiting him as quarterback....with such a small class we won't offer a guy who is not looked at to play quarterback....keep in mind he converted to QB last season...so he is learning the position...
Lot of quarterback offers on the table from us....

Notre Dame only had one Rudy but Nebraska gets a new crop of Rudys every season
In the clip he's running option, zone read, throwing deep fades, wheel routes, slants, hooks...looks like he can play the position a little, anyway, at least from what I can tell.
Doesn't have the top gear that Taylor has by the look of it, but he has some wheels.

As I said in my opening post...imprssive on film....especially for a kid play quarterback his first year in high school as a Jr...

Looks like a pretty good QB to me too, FLAS. Maybe we just aren't qualified to judge actual QB talent.

I think it's tough to judge too much from short highlight reels, myself, good or bad. I mean, you can get some idea of throwing mechanics and possibly speed/moves, but it's a very small sample size that is usually all big plays. He is a little raw running the ball and carrying like a bread loaf on some plays. It sure looks like he's running an offense that is a fit with what we will be doing, though. Looks like good material to start from, anyway.

Not for QB. Texas already has 16 commitments and they have their QB already. Armstrong has 11 offers and not one from Texas.....also he is not listed as a Texas favorite.

That's what I said. He looks like a decent athlete who is playing QB. Clean your glasses. Don't make it out to be more than what it is. I'm not saying he's a terrible QB, but he isn't a great QB either. As I mentioned, this is only my opinion from the little bit in this clip. You saying he is running the option, zone read, etc......really. I seen a lot of zone read & slants, the only option play looked more like a QB keeper which he broke off to the right for a big run. Yes, he can play the position a little. I never said anything other than that.

Really........so are you going to hold hands with him too? There's no qualification for expressing your opinion on what you see. I see an ATH, if you see a QB, that's fine.

I agree. I'm sure Coach Beck has seen more of him than just this clip also. And playing QB for one year could explain the raw look I see of him on the field. None the less, I wouldn't complain seeing him sign an letter with us
