Not sure if they still LIKE each other. I do know they fertilize each egg between layings so they are still Doing the Deed during the ordeal. I kinda look at this as a Ray and Debra Borone marriage. They put up with each other even though they don't always agree how things should be done. Been together for over 3 years now.
the PBS.org documentary goes into Li'l Red and his mates. Pretty sad. His first mate had one eye and she disappeared when he was sitting on the egg. He waited and waited and she never returned. He eventually abandoned the egg but not the nest. They showed her dead carcass but had no idea why she died. He lured Big Red in around 2008 I think. Thought her everything about nest building and maintanence.
Just went down to the river to see if I need to add to my dead pig pile!!!
Three Baldies were eating as I drove up! Then driving out I saw three more!
Would be cool if I have three pair stick around this year!

Coming back from walking and saw a bald eagle gliding over the highway looking for a morsel; out of a copse of trees comes a hawk going almost straight up and drawing a bead on the eagle. Eagle spots the hawk and pulls away. Hawk protecting an egg or something, no idea, but it was neat to see.
In the video above Big Red Mama had been calling non-stop to Lil' Red and finally had enough, so she just takes off. At about the 1:50 point of the video you can see her in the background chasing him back to the nest. But he still doesn't come sit. They "argue" a bit more and then she just takes off. Eventually he comes and shimmies back on the eggs.
