A potential nail in the Bubba to the Huskers coffin
I know, we haven't had our Bubba news for the day. However there has been news out of KC yesterday that I think will directly effect the future of Bubba Starling.
I have been saying all along that if KC doesn't draft Bubba, I feel he will be a Husker. My reasons are here
http://www.huskermax.com/vbbs/showth...322#post345322 Post #36
Anyway, I think yesterday sealed his fate as a member of the KC Royals organization. YEsterday, Gil Meche decided to retire leaving about 12 million dollars on the table and leaving the Royals with 12 million to burn. The Royals have said that they will not use the money on free agents but will instead use it on the draft and international scouting. That's bad news, because 12 million on the draft can be used to draft guys and pay them over the slot. They could draft Bubba and pay him an absurd amount of money (4-6 million) and that would be a lot to pass up.
However, if you are a Royals fan (like myself) you have to be jacked to have 12 million to spend on upgrading the best farm system in all of baseball. If there is one thing Dayton Moore can do is draft and giving himself an extra 12 million to play with on his draft budget could just make the farm system absolutely ridiculous.
As a Husker fan, first and foremost, I hope I am wrong. I would love to see Bubba wearing Red.

Starling won't pass up first round MLB money be it with the Royals or another team. Just the signing bonuses for every single first rounder is over $1 million, with it climbing above $2 million for any pick 20th or higher.
Starling will be giving baseball a try. Maybe he comes back to try college football some day if his baseball dreams don't pan out....but right now, I'd bet the mortgage on him going baseball now.

i know it happens, but if i were a MLB manager/front office/ owner, i would be skeptical about drafting a high school kid to be a pitcher. i guess they see enough pitches and they probably bring someone in to have him throw pitches to, but he is unproven in the majors. they spend millions and say he never gets out of AA or AAA. to me money not well spent.
guess i hope he just comes to nebraska. maybe im just wishing a little to much.

Here ya go, 4Ever. This has the order, and even the first projected picks. For what it's worth, this site has Bubba at #16 to the Dodgers.

Take the money, Bubba. We'll understand.

He's a five-tool player and MLB teams want you as young as they can get. Depending upon where he goes in the draft, I've seen anywhere from #5 to #20, he may possibly get a signing bonus of $2 mil to $6 mil. I would like to see him here, but I don't believe we stand much of a chance based upon draft projections.

I think from what all I have read is that teams see him more of an outfielder.
I guess if he doesn't become N, I hope he is wearing Royal blue.
Just for the record, high school pitchers taken in the first round of the draft can and have done really well. Baseball drafts are all pretty much a crap shoot anyway, but drafting a college pitcher is like buying a lottery ticket where you have a 50% chance to win anywhere between 0 and $35,000. Drafting a high school pither is like buying a lottery ticket where you have a 25% chance to win anywhere between 0 and $1,000,000 THere is a lot more upside to high school pitchers, but with the upside comes a lot uncertainity to how or if a player develops.

I totally agree. And I know I am in the minority here, actually I am sure I am alone, as much as I would love having the kid come to NU, I dont want another passing project. People think that Taylor and Cody cant throw, look at Bubba's passes, or should I say lacktherof!! Having Jamal coming and Brion redshirted is eases my mind!
I would give my life for anyone one of them as i would my own family. -Pops
It doesn’t matter if the glass is half full or half empty. What matters is you have a glass that has something in it. Some people have no glass, or have a glass with nothing in it. So appreciate all that is in your life and quit questioning whether your glass in half full or half empty.

In the words of the the late Michael Jackson "You are not alone". While I'll argue that Greens arm isn't as bad as made out to be, I agree, we obviously don't have the staff in place to turn a Michael Vick from VT into a Michael Vick for Philadelphia. So it's best that we get a guy who is more polished with his arm at this point. And really, I'm hearing BC could possibly be a complete player once he gets into the groove here. I look forward to the spring game to see a glimse.

The Royals would have to match or better the Husker offer!

"I love it here," Pelini said. "I've said this before: This is not a steppingstone job. This is a destination. I enjoy what I'm doing here, I love who I'm working with, I love who I'm working for. I'm not looking for another job. I'm committed to winning a championship here. I'm passionate about winning a championship here."

I don't think we are the USC of the midwest.

I think someone in one of these threads said he was more of an OF prospect for baseball...

No way Royals pick him at #5. But if he drops to 2nd or 3rd round, they will draft him and offer him over-slot money. No problem for me either way, being a Royals fan.

Didn't the Giants take Tim Lincecum out of high school? Or maybe it was college after all. I just know he was this young "upstart" guy who wound up being one of the best pitchers in the league as a rookie.

i dont know anything about the high school players going into the majors. couldnt even tell you how many did that or who they were. i was just asking if it happens alot. i dont follow MLB at all. also if i was a manager/front office/owner i would not draft a high school kid i guess. but i guess thats why im stuck here on the couch.
