Sacramento St Info:
Typical Rotation Depth:
8-9
4 Factors: Traditionally not a team that turns the ball over
Tempo: Slower, makes you work on defense
Style: Not taking a lot of 3s unless necessary
Player to watch: Justin Strings
The 6'7" 235# Junior is last year's returning scorer and 3pt shooter, putting up 15.3 per game. Even with a nightmare 2-17 shooting night against Colorado, he still finished the game with a double-double
The Skinny: The Hornets are a darkhorse to compete for the Big Sky championship as they bring back four starters from a so-so 2015-16 squad. Sacramento brings in a sizable frontcourt that should give us a chance to see how much the Huskers have improved their physicality and size from last year. One thing to watch for is whether freshman PG Izayah Mauriohoohoo-Le'Afa who is expected to start at some point but was injured on Friday. Typically it's the players that the Huskers haven't been able to scout that kill them but given he's also from New Zealand and has played for the national team, we at least know who he is. I don't expect the Hornets to come out so flatly the way they did vs Colorado where they were held to 19 first half points. The Huskers are good enough to out-talent this team if they need to but let's hope that while we're working on figuring out our lineups we don't find ourselves in that situation. Given that Arizona St lost to their opener to these guys last year proves it isn't close to impossible.
Look for Nebraska to win this but probably not a complete blowout

Prediction: Nebraska 82 Sacramento St 68 with a 78% chance of Runza

I wouldn't sleep on this team. I'm not sure what kind of record they will have when it's all said and done, but they will keep it interesting.

I think they will be fun if nothing else. Looking forward to Morrow and Roby jumping over people, and Watson and Gill running by them.

I would love to see this forum excited again about husker basketball. It starts tonight with a win!

I am so stoked to see the Huskers in action. I missed the replay of the exhibition and like always, I have high hopes for the team this year.

Cautiously optimistic.

NU favored by 17.

Sac St. lost to Colorado 90-53 friday night. Sac St. shot 29% from the field, 9% from 3 and 52% from the FT line. Justin Strings, who I assume is the leading returning scorer (15 ppg last year) shot 2-17 total and 1-6 from 3. He was a 50%/40% guy last year. SO...can you count on him being dreadful 2 nights in a row or does he gravitate back toward his "normal"? Based on last year's stats he's about the only one that could hit the 3 with any consistency.

NU will win this by 20+

Looking forward to seeing this team and watching some of the new players. We're young but many elements are in place--this season will be about how fast some of the kids can grow up.

Who can we go to at crunch time? Who steps up when a 5 or 6 minute scoring drought looms on the horizen? Can we have a better inside presence?

Should be fun to find out.

Looks like we will have to wait for the Penn St. - Duquesne game to end before we will see any of the NU - Sac State game. 2:30 left in that game.
