Since he's never been to Lincoln, it's not too surprising. It's better to know now than have him come and then make a Grim decision that wasted a scholarship.

Nebraska doesn't allow "special admits" for athletes, I believe the school has stated that publicly. Maryland does make exceptions for athletes, or they did a few years ago. Essentially they can relax entrance standards for their athletes. My cousin is a Terps fan who used to razz me about dumb NU football players. Then a few years ago the Baltimore Sun ran a story about Maryland's "special admit" athletes not performing very well in the classroom. I specifically remember something about a bunch of MD football players scoring so low on the SAT they were not considered literate at the college level.

MD admits athletes who don't meet normal MD standards so it could be. Found an article (linked below). I don't know anything about this kid, so I'll assume he just doesn't want to go to NU.
